We recently connected with Lenora McClellan and have shared our conversation below.
Lenora, thanks for joining us, excited to have you contributing your stories and insights. What’s been the most meaningful project you’ve worked on?
The book by Gods grace my personal testimony, tells the real life story of the trauma I faced as a child, teenager, and young adult, and how God brought me through it all. I recently had a book club entitled from trauma to triumph where we discussed the house I was molested in at 9 years old, my journey from thoughts of suicide and my surrender to God.It’s meaningful because It opened up the door for me to be transparent to other people who have experienced the same thing, sharing my story took away the shame I had hidden for many years.
As always, we appreciate you sharing your insights and we’ve got a few more questions for you, but before we get to all of that can you take a minute to introduce yourself and give our readers some of your back background and context?
My pain became my purpose it began when I started journaling when I was about 9 years old, I would express what I was going through on little note pads, those journals became poems, the poems and life experiences became books. The books became plays. And all of it happened because God knew I needed a way to release my pain. My business is entitled Lenoras Inspirational collection where I offer to create poetry for all occasions God gifted me to write to inspire others. I have 14 published books on Amazon and other booksellers. I have a variety of books from children’s book, to self-help books for teens and adults, and poetry for theoccasions of life The living, loving, and letting go, meaning I also produced a book of poetry for funerals when I was hired at Union cemetery in Bakersfield, California. My most memorable poetry reading was for the garden of innocence where I wrote and recited a poem for an abandoned deceased baby I felt honored to honor Him The Chaplin named him William. I write because God inspires and purposed me to write from the heart so that those who have been through traumatic times in their lives know that there is love, peace, deliverance, comfort and Joy in Jesus.
Is there mission driving your creative journey?
Yes my mission is to see one of my faith based plays become a movie to reach more people that it may inspire positive change because of the message God included in each play He gives me.
What’s a lesson you had to unlearn and what’s the backstory?
That everyone you meet on this journey is not for you and many will try to discourage you with their words or in the way that they treat you.
The back story: I present many plays in my community free of charge and I also serve dinner, I was approached a few times by different producers in my community who told me that I make it hard for the real play writers who sale tickets for their plays when I’m letting people in for free. I also was told by a great friend that I need to think bigger in regards to putting the plays in bigger arenas, I saw both comments as compliments.
