Alright – so today we’ve got the honor of introducing you to Lenni Uitto. We think you’ll enjoy our conversation, we’ve shared it below.
Lenni, thanks for taking the time to share your stories with us today We’d love to hear about when you first realized that you wanted to pursue a creative path professionally.
For me it was like I had this itch that needed to be scratched. I knew I wanted to do something but I didn’t fully know what it was until I found it. And when I did all bets were off, I knew what I needed to do. Some people may go a lifetime never knowing what it is they are supposed to do in life. But I’m glad I was able to figure it out. For me it I knew I wanted to tell stories thru filmmaking and acting as soon as I made my first short film.
Lenni, before we move on to more of these sorts of questions, can you take some time to bring our readers up to speed on you and what you do?
Hello, my names Lenni Uitto, I’m an actor and film director. I got into this industry when I discovered my passion for telling stories. You can see my first feature film “Permafrost” on Amazon and other streaming platforms. It’s about a bounty hunter that saves a little girl and finds redemption from his past. It takes place in a post apocalyptic world where the planet is frozen over and factions have come to power that rule. Every project you work on comes with its own problems. I have come to understand that every day on set making movies is pretty much a day trouble shooting and trying to find solutions to the problems you encounter. So in a way filmmakers become some of the best problem solvers out there. I always tell people that want to get into the movie making industry. Get into it for the right reasons. You have to really really love to tell stories because if it’s for any other reason you’ll question why you are doing this job, and you may give up on it because it can be such a difficult path. So for me it’s about the story you tell and being able to move your audience on a deeper level so they can feel deeper and understand deeper people as well as have a fun time tagging along for a story. Anyone can follow what I’m doing on Instagram, and they can watch movies I’ve made on Amazon and YouTube @xelotfilm
Let’s talk about resilience next – do you have a story you can share with us?
While filming Permafrost, every day had its struggles. We made this film in the thick of the wilderness deep in winter of Utah. We struggled with many different problems on set but the ones I want to talk about are the problems we had no control over. Being outside in the wilderness came with its advantages. Which meant we had some of the most lush and beautiful landscapes to visually put on display. But it also meant we had to deal with the harsh unpredictable weather of Utah. I recall one day we were ready to shoot that day and it had turned into the craziest blizzard in the deep forests of Utah. When I was looking at it my team and I decided instead of scrapping the shoot. That it would actually be cinematically amazing to shoot the scenes in these conditions. So we did, and those scenes made it into the film and became some of the most cinematic parts of the movie. So I think why I shared this story is…don’t be afraid to embrace what you are give. Don’t be too stubborn to see the blessing that is in front of you when you are trying to fulfill your vision. Cause more likely than not your gonna make something magical happen.
Is there a particular goal or mission driving your creative journey?
For me the biggest mission or goal I have as an actor and director is to be able to move an audience by telling a story that helps them to see their own humanity. Sometimes this is all people need to see and feel to help them to become the best person they can be.
