We’re excited to introduce you to the always interesting and insightful Lenka Kubinova. We hope you’ll enjoy our conversation with Lenka below.
Lenka , looking forward to hearing all of your stories today. Let’s kick things off with your mission – what is it and what’s the story behind why it’s your mission?
A few months after my daughter was born, I noticed she was incredibly active during sleep—constantly wriggling and kicking off her blanket. This left her waking up cold and unhappy, which meant I was waking up too. Before long, we were all completely sleep-deprived!
Determined to find a solution, I searched everywhere for a product that would keep her cozy without restricting her movement. When I couldn’t find exactly what she needed, I created it myself.
That’s how the first BABY IN MERINO™ sleep sack with open legs came to life—it was my very first product! While the original design didn’t look like the products we offer today, it was built on the same core principles: allowing freedom of movement while still providing warmth and comfort. Simplicity and the use of 100% natural fabrics were at the heart of every decision.
Over the years, I’ve realized just how many parents face the same challenges as I did seven years ago. I’m so proud to offer a product that solves the kicking-off-the-blanket problem and helps families enjoy better, more restful sleep.
Lenka , love having you share your insights with us. Before we ask you more questions, maybe you can take a moment to introduce yourself to our readers who might have missed our earlier conversations?
Our company offers pure, organic products designed for babies, children, and their moms to thrive in a conscious, sustainable, and non-toxic world. We specialize in creating unique, simple, and comfortable garments made exclusively from Merino wool, a truly remarkable and biodegradable material.
Our products are designed not just for the lifetime of this earth but for the lifetime of being human. They are meant to be cherished and passed down from generation to generation. By sourcing and using 100% organic fabrics, our products already stand out in terms of quality.
Each piece is individually sewn in a small, family-owned factory in Slovakia, where I have the privilege of personally knowing and supporting the talented seamstresses who create them. Every item is crafted with care and love.
I take immense pride in knowing that our products not only bring comfort and durability but also reflect the values of sustainability and the personal connections behind their creation.
Okay – so how did you figure out the manufacturing part? Did you have prior experience?
When I started this business, I had no experience in making patterns, sourcing materials, or even running a small business—but I had a clear vision. I knew exactly what I wanted to create.
From the start, I decided to manufacture my products in Slovakia, where I come from. Slovakia is known for its master craftsmanship and unmatched quality, which aligned perfectly with the values I wanted to bring to my brand.
In the beginning, finding a sewing company willing to produce in limited quantities was a challenge. Many manufacturers preferred larger-scale operations, but I remained persistent, knowing I needed a partner who could meet my quality standards and align with my vision. Over time, I found a small, family-owned factory in Slovakia—a place where I could work closely with skilled seamstresses.
This collaboration has allowed me to stay true to my mission of creating high-quality, sustainable products while supporting the community I come from.
Any stories or insights that might help us understand how you’ve built such a strong reputation?
What has truly helped me build my reputation in the market is the personal touch I bring to every aspect of my business. When customers open a box full of wool items, it’s not just about the product—it’s an experience. Wool has its own unique energy and natural scent, and I love creating that moment of joy and connection for my customers.
Many of my customers return year after year to purchase Merino items for their little ones, and I’m so grateful for their loyalty. To show my appreciation, I often include small gifts with their orders, such as samples of wool shampoo, wool patches, or even socks. It’s these thoughtful gestures that help build relationships and trust with my customers.
Of course, none of this would matter if the products themselves weren’t exceptional.
Lastly, I believe outstanding customer service is key. It’s not just about solving issues—it’s about making customers feel valued and cared for at every step. This combination of high-quality products, personal touches, and exceptional service is what sets my brand apart and keeps customers coming back.
