We’re excited to introduce you to the always interesting and insightful Lendryx Barnes. We hope you’ll enjoy our conversation with Lendryx below.
Hi Lendryx, thanks for joining us today. We’d love to hear the backstory behind a risk you’ve taken – whether big or small, walk us through what it was like and how it ultimately turned out.
Joining the military nearly 12 years ago allowed me to leave my low class home in Alabama. Outside of the obvious risks of putting your life on the life for your country, I also ran the risk of my career dreams of being an artist being delayed. However, everything I’ve been able to accomplish, including living in Los Angeles, has been because of my time in the Air Force. I even made the trip to California with no job lined up, and landed a well paying gig to support my music within a week.

Lendryx, love having you share your insights with us. Before we ask you more questions, maybe you can take a moment to introduce yourself to our readers who might have missed our earlier conversations?
My name is Lendryx (len-drix), which means “son of Lynn.” I’m a R&B singer & songwriter based in Los Angeles, born in Alabama. I’m also a recording engineer and vocal producer. I write, record & mix all of my own music, and have been for 16 years. I am proud of being able to approach R&B from a studied approach that doesn’t sound complacent. I have my own sound from a decade of covers, original music & more. I’m proud of being able to release music during my time in the United States Air Force and my resilience, which is a core value needed for the music industry. I’ve begun songwriting in sessions for Bryson Tiller, Tone Stith, Sy’Rai Smith (Brandy Norwood’s daughter), and more.

Let’s talk about resilience next – do you have a story you can share with us?
My time in Adana, Turkey in 2016 was very turbulent. With a military conflict keeping us on base and working in a very sensitive workplace, my resilience was most tested when a military coup was attempted. Through all of this, I was able to release my debut album “Player 3” in December of 2016. We were able to have a listening party on the military base.

What’s a lesson you had to unlearn and what’s the backstory?
Biggest thing I had to unlearn was, just because I had to do it all by myself to get where I am does NOT mean I have to continue doing it solo. Leaning on others, outsourcing, delegating tasks, ect have been very helpful for my growth as an artist.
