We’re excited to introduce you to the always interesting and insightful Lemon Price. We hope you’ll enjoy our conversation with Lemon below.
Lemon, thanks for taking the time to share your stories with us today So let’s jump to your mission – what’s the backstory behind how you developed the mission that drives your brand?
I truly have a heart to serve others and share their stories. When I was 24, I joined a very restrictive church. I didn’t know it at the time. I was promised happy families and sunshine all the time. I was beyond naive about what I was walking into. I was told over and over again that my only real value existed in my womb and my job was to serve my family and support my husband. I was told during my divorce that it must have been because I did something wrong because my husband was an “upstanding” church member. They knew about the abuse behind closed doors but none of that mattered. I had left my corporate job and went to my business full time during that divorce. Where church leadership again told me that no good man wanted a woman who ran a business and my worth was again in my womb only. I believed that lie for a long time until I did my own soul searching. It’s been so important to me to really help others, especially women, really understand and use their voice.

Lemon, love having you share your insights with us. Before we ask you more questions, maybe you can take a moment to introduce yourself to our readers who might have missed our earlier conversations?
It was actually never my dream to get into marketing or leadership development. I thought I would be a second-grade teacher for the rest of my life. I ended up here by accident. In undergrad, I minored in Journalism and took an online journalism class. We blogged basically. I grew up in a resort town and was freshly 21 and thought what better way to spend my time than writing bar and restaurant reviews? I loved it. Absolutely loved hearing each person’s story and what inspired them and these menus and experiences they were creating. My first little blog went viral for as viral as something can go in 2011 and I landed my first job in marketing as a social media strategist. From there I continued to just develop my skills. I got an MA in Marketing and Journalism and moved up the corporate ladder fast. When I was 26, I was in the C-Suite helping a company hit 10 million in sales in under 1 year. It was a lot of pressure but that success was so satisfying. I felt like I had peaked professionally and left 2 years later to start my own agency.
What I learned working with these owners who were doing multiple 7 and 8 figures is that they also needed help as a leader so I took some ICF-accredited programs to become a leadership mentor as well so I could really serve the whole person and in turn, they turn around and serve.
While I help clients crush it with their marketing, and I use a lot of data to ensure success every single time, I also work with the owner on developing their leadership and empowering their company leaders to do the same. It’s been really fulfilling seeing the bottom line of a company grow as well as the owner becoming an even more effective leader.
I think the thing I am most proud of is the impact. Every single person I work with has a mission bigger than their company. I don’t necessarily advertise it but those are the people I attract. When they have a heart to serve a community or a project, that passion really shows up in the work they are willing to do. Seeing people increase their bottom line or free up some time because they learned how to delegate or automate some processes means they get more time and provision to give back to the organizations and causes they are most passionate about. It’s really incredible to see that my impact on them gets to have global impact. I will never truly know the ROI because it is so much bigger than us.

Any advice for growing your clientele? What’s been most effective for you?
For me, it’s speaking. I podcast and speak at conferences. I can write great content all day but when someone interacts with me and really sees my heart behind why I do this, it becomes a game changer. People can really understand why I do this and get to experience me in real-time. It becomes a no brainer for people to want to work with me after they’ve seen me live.

How did you build your audience on social media?
I love this question. Honestly, be yourself in all areas of your life. People want real and they want honest. They are so tired of these big megaphone messages that feel overly crafted and edited. People just want real. One of the best posts I ever had personally was crafted for TikTok in about 2 minutes. I grabbed a stock video and then found some trending audio. All I posted was “be careful if you follow me because I believe A. B. & C.” That post had over 100k views in a few hours and added an additional 10k followers. Those followers are some of the most engaging followers I have because they bought into my belief system.
Don’t be afraid to offend people with your belief system. Good marketing attracts the right people. and repels the wrong people. So be unapologetically yourself and let people decide which bucket they belong in.
