We’re excited to introduce you to the always interesting and insightful Leisa Cole. We hope you’ll enjoy our conversation with Leisa below.
Leisa, thanks for joining us, excited to have you contributing your stories and insights. Do you wish you had started sooner?
As much as I would’ve loved to have started a creative career sooner, all of my unique experiences have created a one of a kind me and business.
I started LC Tye Dye in 2020 while I was working from home during the pandemic. I’ve always had a hard time sitting still or being inside for too long, so I decided to order some dye to keep busy.
In the summer of 2008 and 2009 I worked at a summer camp in Estes Park, CO teaching basket weaving. Also in the craft shop was tie dye, this is where I first learned the art.
When I started to created again in 2020, I was really happy with what I was making so thus my Etsy account was born. After my first sale, I felt a drive to create more and I haven’t stopped since!
After working in a craft shop I moved to Boulder, CO then on to a few other towns around the state, including Breckinridge! I bartended in a small mountain town dive bar, managed a cannabis dispensary in Denver, CO, and after moving to Myrtle Beach, SC I became a legal assistant at an injury law firm. When I was called back to the office after working (and tie dyeing) from home for a year, I decided to find something new that gave me flexibility to still create. Myrtle Beach is one of the golf capitals in the US so I decided to dive into a totally new field, or course! So when I’m not tie dyeing, I’m driving a golf cart around a golf course. Life is pretty awesome and I don’t think it would be possible if I changed anything. If I could do it again, I would do it exactly the same.
I’ve created hundreds of one of a kind pieces and they wouldn’t have be possible without seeing the life I have lived.

Leisa, love having you share your insights with us. Before we ask you more questions, maybe you can take a moment to introduce yourself to our readers who might have missed our earlier conversations?
I first began tie dyeing while I was working in Estes Park, CO at a cute little craft shop. I was there teaching basket weaving, but after making one tie dye shirt I was hooked. Ten years later I started dyeing again and created LC Tye Dye.
I was born and raised in Oklahoma, lived in Colorado for ten years, and home is currently in Myrtle Beach, SC. I love the plains, mountains, and beach so I use those as inspiration to create one of a kind tie dye pieces. Everything I make will be the only of its kind, so each owner will hold a true tie dye treasure.
When I first started LC Tye Dye, I had no idea how many pieces I would have to continue to make to keep my online store stocked. I was proud to see my hard work in creating, social media and self promotion was paying off.
I am happiest when I am creating art in any form, but tie dye is my favorite way to express. I feel amazing when I wear one of my unique pieces and I hope the same for any one that gets one!
We’d love to hear the story of how you built up your social media audience?
Growing your audience on any social media platform takes patience and persistence. First I decided how I wanted to present myself and my business in the social media world. When a new account looked at my page, I wanted them to know exactly what I was about and easily access links to my shop. Finally, it’s all about content! Be yourself, take awesome pictures, and create reels!
The main things I’ve learned on social media is that, not all posts go viral and don’t overthink it! Using strong hashtags and being involved in online communities with similar interests will help add to your post engagement.
Is there a particular goal or mission driving your creative journey?
My main mission in life is to be happy and I am here. I am most happy when I create art and call it a career. I have lived the office cubicle life and I know that’s why my drive to keep creating art is so strong!
