We’re excited to introduce you to the always interesting and insightful Leilani Valentine. We hope you’ll enjoy our conversation with Leilani below.
Leilani, appreciate you joining us today. Before we get into specifics, let’s talk about success more generally. What do you think it takes to be successful?
Running a successful business takes a combination of hard work, dedication, and an eye for detail. It requires knowledge of the products and services offered, an understanding of what the customer wants and listening to their needs. Willingness to go the extra mile to ensure customer satisfaction. You should also be organized and have good communication skills, so you can effectively manage staff and customer relations. Additionally, it’s important to stay up-to-date with industry trends and create a marketing strategy to get the word out about your business. I will try to attend any events that allow me to make new connections and learn as much as I can about my industry. As a business owner, it can be overwhelming to try to manage multiple tasks at once. However, with a few simple tips, you can become a multi-tasking master! First, set aside a specific time of day to focus on each task. This will help you stay organized and focused. Second, break down large projects into smaller chunks. This will make them more manageable and easier to complete. Third, prioritize tasks according to importance and deadlines. This will help ensure that you complete the most important work first. Finally, don’t be afraid to delegate tasks to others. This will free up time for you to focus on the more important aspects of running your business. With these tips, you can become an efficient multi-tasker and get the most out of your day! With the right combination of these factors, you can create a successful business.
Awesome – so before we get into the rest of our questions, can you briefly introduce yourself to our readers.
Leilani Valentine navigates the ups, downs, and sideways maneuvers that make up today’s modern work version of “climbing the ladder.” I’d say it’s a healthy mix of daily operations and planning for the future. The beauty industry is an inviting, inspiring place, full of empowering women, evolving ideas. I never imagined I’d pursue a career within this industry but it is now my happy place.
I don’t think there was a single “a-ha” moment where I knew I’d be an entrepreneur. It was more a path that I found myself on after a journey of self love and self care. With my husband’s support I said lets give it a shot. I’ve always been someone who thinks about how things could be done better. I genuinely care about what I am trying to do and how people look at beauty but the main thing I credit to my success to is just pure, unadulterated grit. I will do anything and everything possible to ensure my vision is fully realized.
We have high-quality, plant-rich products for every skin type. Clean beauty products are skin-care,lip gloss, and body-care products that contain none of the questionable-for-your-health ingredients .
What do you think helped you build your reputation within your market?
How you treat others and the reputation you build for yourself is paramount. It’s as simple as following the golden rule—treat others as you’d respectfully want to be treated, and you’ll quickly build a network and better yet, a community of advocates who are willing to help you succeed. It may sound cheesy, but it’s the truth.
Don’t be afraid to reach out to anyone you admire within the industry to ask for guidance or introduce yourself. Being a african american woman in a vastly male-dominated space is challenging. I strive to provide excellent customer service and to go above and beyond to meet the needs of my customers. I also constantly work to stay up to date on the latest industry developments and trends. By focusing on these aspects, I believe I have been able to build a positive reputation within my market.
What’s a lesson you had to unlearn and what’s the backstory?
The greatest lessons in my career are all surrounding people. As the founder of a small, growing company, I wear a lot of hats that might be a freestanding role in a larger organization. I’m currently learning to let go, give people a chance to shine (or even make mistakes), and let my team know that I trust them.
