We recently connected with Leilani Lealaimatafao and have shared our conversation below.
Leilani, thanks for joining us, excited to have you contributing your stories and insights. Coming up with the idea is so exciting, but then comes the hard part – executing. Too often the media ignores the execution part and goes from idea to success, skipping over the nitty, gritty details of executing in the early days. We think that’s a disservice both to the entrepreneurs who built something amazing as well as the public who isn’t getting a realistic picture of what it takes to succeed. So, we’d really appreciate if you could open up about your execution story – how did you go from idea to execution?
The idea to execution process happened within months and is still in the process! As far as social media, I often took breaks because I felt it wasn’t growing but I was always comparing myself to the next person. When I stayed consistent in my passions, whatever I was praying and working for always happened! With my tiktok streaming, it happened within two weeks as I found an awesome livestream agency. However, the idea was there for years. It was just that as I watched other start live streaming. I thought I never had time or didn’t see why I should but I found immense joy upon starting. With my businesses, it took months almost a year, to develop. Sometimes it didn’t feel like it was happening but patience is a big key I learned. The other big key is teamwork! My friends and close network helped me launch my clothing brand and they also supported me when I start my event booking services. As I make my presence known and do the things I say I will, my businesses have progressed.
Leilani, love having you share your insights with us. Before we ask you more questions, maybe you can take a moment to introduce yourself to our readers who might have missed our earlier conversations?
My name is Leilani Lealaimatafao and I technically got into my industry when social media first started! I’ve always been a natural socialite but it wasn’t until I moved to Los Angeles, that I realized I could turn my passions and interests into a career. I completed undergrad in psychology & grad school business administration & digital marketing, coached volleyball, worked in healthcare for 6 years and was still not happy. I feel like I was given the gift to learn and share on a bigger scale to help others and I do so in each of my stages of life. I am optimistic and often get complemented on my positive and friendly energy. My current endeavors include a daily live stream on TikTok and Twitch (Kick & Facebook soon), owning a loungewear brand called Felicity Orange, owning another company called Book with The Most exclusive e bartending and other event services, and working as a host for Afrovibes TV Magazine & Radio.
We’d love to hear the story of how you built up your social media audience?
Most of my followers came naturally without thinking twice! Honestly my growth slowed down when I figured out what the algorithm is and all the technical things like followers ratio and like count became a factor. My best advice to new creators is to stick to your passions consistently. As long as you’re happy doing what you do, creating content and interacting with those interested comes quite natural. If you like it, post it! Someone is bound to interact, just be patient and don’t be so caught up on the numbers compared to others. While building a foundation, you’re biggest competition is yourself. Compare your own data, do your market research and create new goals for yourself weekly. It’s great to get inspired by others doing big things, as long as you know you can do it too.
Can you talk to us about how your side-hustle turned into something more.
My side hustles and interests turned into my main career when I decided to stop forcing jobs that made me unhappy anyways. I’ve always been active on social media and would turn each interest into a new endeavor like starting my YouTube channel or creating my own platform. These two digital footprints with my graduate degree, opened up the door for professional social media management opportunities. I originally created my platforms to just share and learn with others but they blossomed into the titles I hold today! Never did I think I would be on tiktok live-streaming and running my own businesses. I am doing it though! In the last 3 years, I have been fired from 2 jobs and basically laid off another. Each time, I knew it was God’s plan to help me create bigger things for myself because I wasn’t thriving in those situations anyways.
