Alright – so today we’ve got the honor of introducing you to Leigh Mills. We think you’ll enjoy our conversation, we’ve shared it below.

Hi Leigh , thanks for joining us today. Alright, so we’d love to hear about how you got your first client or customer. What’s the story?

It’s an interesting sequence of events that led to my first client. I never really intended to have a business, but had always wanted to learn energy healing and reiki. I read many books along the way until the opportunity opened up for me in 2014 to learn locally from a famous reiki person coming into town. At I was working at a cancer treatment hospital for a few years, and one of my teammates who sat next to me went through thyroid cancer. I too ended up with thyroid cancer as well and got through it but wanted to speak with a functional medicine doctor as well. I asked my teammate who she went to after the surgery for help with the side effects.. She sent me her doctor, Dr Michelle Piper, a nurse practitioner who specialized in this. Highly recommended I went, and she was very helpful to direct me with what I needed for my recovery , etc. But then, she turned to me and said” I hope you take this the right way, I’m also a psychic medium and spirit is telling me that you are a great healer, and you will be a great reiki / energy healer. for years to come..also, I would be taking a class soon that is coming to town and gave me a specific date. She also said I would work with her as her premier healer, for which she had been on the lookout for for some time! I was shocked to find out that she’s also a psychic medium who is incredibly great with her timing. She is also an author. I remember being in the doctors office, smiling at her and then saying, but there is no way- I have work, etc. Well, she was right! The date was exact and it made a believer out of me. :)
That was the start of my journey with energy healing. It wasn’t long after I practiced on friends and loved ones that Dr. Piper called me, as Motherella , her side business was called. She told me that she had someone that really needed my healing work. She asked me to join her at her Center and be the energy healer. I began right away, before I could talk myself out of it. I was nervous at first but then I think the excitement took over my nerves and then it was not long into the first session that I was in my element, enjoying the fascinating work of having someone heal right under your hands.

I remember as I finished that first session.. waiting with anticipation for the client to rise from the reiki table. My client was smiling and in amazement at how different she felt. She remarked on how what I do is different than any other reiki / energy work she had experienced. She then told me I must do this for a practice for others to enjoy and benefit from as well. Boy was that a relief. I was hoping for an all good, and it was much more than I ever expected.

My heart and smile soared at that moment , with validation that I as not imagining things, as I had always thought my imagination is really vivid! Dr. Michelle Piper/ Motherella helped to validate what changes were seen before and after sessions with me and the clients too. We still are good friends today, over a decade later and I do distant healing work for her and clients as well. She pushed me out of my comfort zone to do something that I never imagined would feel so natural. I’m forever grateful for that and I still have the feeling with every client. For me, Jikiden Reiki is always fascinating and powerful. I have not looked back since.

Leigh , before we move on to more of these sorts of questions, can you take some time to bring our readers up to speed on you and what you do?

I got into my business just from being so busy while practicing my new found life hobby! I had many success stories early, and the more that I did it, the more centered and peaceful I felt. I learned over a decade ago but this practice is a life long journey. It is a spiritual path, really. It is an art form. The subtle art of sensing what an organ is doing, feeling someone’s energy from a distant land and enjoying the reciprocal nature of this practice are things that evolve with energy healing and jikiden Reiki. I do a form of reiki that is direct from Japan, without western influence. It is specific and elegant , and I teach it as well. I provide energy work / Jikiden Reiki sessions both in person and virtually, called enkaku.

Distant healing is not much different with regard to the energy work, just that we are not physically in the same place. The word , Enkaku, stands for Absent healing since the client is absent from the practitioner. Each session, regardless of location, includes a discussion before and after the healing / reiki and it ‘s helpful for me to understand what we want to address during the session and also to compare it to how they felt before we began. This work is palpable.. I am most proud that I give a lot of knowledge and energy to my clients and that I take the time to know them and understand what they need from me.. I want more than anything to help each person transform whatever they are dealing with into something they can look at in the rear view mirror with love and compassion. Reiki , simply, is love. It’s something we all want and need and I am grateful to be in a position to channel that for others. One fun fact, as I do this practice, I receive it too , so it’s always a win/ win , and a fascinating journey. I am a former professional athlete, college coach, I speak a few languages, and I have travelled the world with much experience in so many cultures.. These travels have helped make me who I am and to connect with so many people from every walk of life. My clients range from age 6 to age 89. It is my passion and I’m just happy to have found it and to have the chance to share it with everyone.

How did you build your audience on social media?

Build value. Give people a reason to follow you. Give them your undivided attention. Also, I either give them something uplifting or I share some info to educate them , give it away and don’t ask for anything in return I believe that those who need me will find me and that I attract business.. I had a solid marketing effort for a few years up until things shut down some for the pandemic.. After that pandemic, I only did Enkaku, ( Distant energy healing) .. for almost 3 years. I expanded my reach oversees and it was all word of mouth. I was busy working on myself so that I could be a better channel , and helping others deal with the enormity of the stressors from the pandemic. Losing loved one’s , not being able to see loved one’s, etc. It was a real growth spurt for me personally and professionally. I have not marketed or put out any posts for 4 years. I am busier than ever and all of it is word of mouth, then they are directed to my website I would say starting out , figure out who you are and what you stand for, and never waiver on that principle. You treat everyone the same , with highest regard and for their highest good, and you’re on the right path.

Where do you think you get most of your clients from?

I would say the best source for me for new clients has always been word of mouth. I have those that come to me from far away places, but many times it’s because of my reviews, and that something resonates with them that attracts them to come to me.. I believe the best way to find new clients is to attract them,,, mean ing that I really think that those who need to find me , will. And I’m good with not being everyone’s choice.. I know that what I do will resonate with people and that it is deeply beneficial for them. I have over a decade of stories , one by one , to prove it.. Not to mention , this is more about how I live , who I am and what that represents. It’s not just a business for me. .That is coincidental. I am drawn to this from my soul and when I do energy work I find that my ability to become a clear channel of light/ energy and to silence my mind, myself , everything that represents me, goes away. That is such a joy to experience, and to share the connection no matter if it’s enkakau, distant or in person. It is undeniable and I am grateful for my life experiences thus far that have brought me to this place in my life.
