We caught up with the brilliant and insightful Leigh Lamb a few weeks ago and have shared our conversation below.
Leigh, looking forward to hearing all of your stories today. Before we get into specifics, let’s talk about success more generally. What do you think it takes to be successful?
The definition of success is different person to person. Someone might look at me and say that I’m not successful or you can look at someone who’s at the top of their career but deep down they are miserable. One might think you’re successful when you can buy whatever you want or have a private jet or close a certain amount of deals per year. The type of success I want is where I have some semblance of balance in my life. I can see the big picture and I want to have steady business but be able to enjoy time with my family. Being in real estate, you quickly see that agents will burn the candle at both ends and miss very important moments and while the customer comes first, you have to have some boundaries.

Great, appreciate you sharing that with us. Before we ask you to share more of your insights, can you take a moment to introduce yourself and how you got to where you are today to our readers.
For fourteen years I had my own business doing graphic design and then I eventually added photography to the mix. I was in sales and marketing before I started my own business. I was living in Destin with my husband and he said we will likely end up in a small town in New Mexico where I wouldn’t be able to work and that scared me so much. So I taught myself graphic design and eventually photography (shout out to my sister who really taught me photography.. and YouTube!) and I was able to do a lot of work from home.
When I moved to Memphis three years ago, I just wanted a change. I did a few little jobs and then talked to someone about getting my real estate license. I’ve always wanted to learn more about real estate and eventually invest more in real estate so I went for it. With my husband in the Air Force, we had to move a decent amount so we always had to put so much trust in our local agent and I just really want to be that person if they are moving to the Memphis area.

Any advice for growing your clientele? What’s been most effective for you?
I am an extrovert through and through. Everyone needs their down time but my battery is absolutely charged after being around people, even strangers. I even love small talk! I think that my need for connection and my ability to talk to almost anyone has really helped me grow my business and I hope that’s how I’ll continue to grow!

We’d love to hear about how you keep in touch with clients.
I try to reach out to clients weekly just with texts or social media posts. I try to do little gifts every other month but the main goal is quarterly. I love to give gifts so that’s just been a natural thing for me. And there’s this part of me that wants to be buddies with all of my clients. There are 4,000 agents in Memphis and it’s not lost on me that you could choose anyone so to put your trust in me is something I’m eternally grateful for.
