LeeAnn and Samantha, appreciate you joining us today. We love heartwarming stories – do you have a heartwarming story from your career to share?
Every single day, we witness a heartwarming story. That is the beauty of being an S2C Practitioner. Every single nonspeaker that walks through our door at Access S2C, has never been given the opportunity to express their own thoughts, feelings, opinions, etc. Whether that be 5 years in silence, or even 50 years in silence, our job is to open up a whole new world for these individuals. Although it is a process, each step in the communication journey is a miracle. Learning everything about nonspeakers that we never knew was possible is truly heartwarming!
As always, we appreciate you sharing your insights and we’ve got a few more questions for you, but before we get to all of that can you take a minute to introduce yourself and give our readers some of your back background and context?
Access S2C, located in Cleveland, Ohio, is a Spelling to Communicate (S2C) center. S2C teaches those with motor challenges the purposeful motor skills necessary to point to letters on a letterboard/keyboard as an alternate means of communication. LeeAnn & Samantha (Co-Founders, S2C Practitioners) crossed paths a few years back through mutual friends, & decided to dive in & take the leap of faith, starting Access S2C. The main goal at Access S2C is to provide Spelling to Communicate services to those who are looking to gain more independence & autonomy in communication. Access S2C is also excited to offer Adaptive Personal Training sessions to help align the mind and body, a key component in learning this communication skill. Community is what sets Access apart from others. Access S2C has strived to provide a welcoming, judgement-free community in NE Ohio to connect Spellers & families. We are most proud of our Spellers for their hard work & dedication, we know this skill is not easy, but just keep working hard. Your futures are all bright!
If you could go back, would you choose the same profession, specialty, etc.?
If we could go back in time, we would both agree that we would choose to become S2C Practitioners. The amount of inspirational, motivational, life-changing moments witnessed in this career are unmatched. We learned real quick that there are too many things in life that we, typical people, take for granted. Walking into our office each morning, knowing we are going to help children & families communicate in ways they’ve never been able to is pure motivation & satisfaction!
Can you tell us the story behind how you met your business partner?
In 2022, we crossed paths after learning about S2C from mutual friends. The Ohio S2C Community was small at the time so basically everyone knew each other. After spending some time together, we decided that we share a lot of the same interests & ideas, so it would be beneficial to start the business together! That was the best decision we’ve made. Our community & practice has grown significantly & we both have our own roles in running the business. We are a strong team, with strong beliefs & an inseparable bond.
