Alright – so today we’ve got the honor of introducing you to LeeAndra “Dj Chef Dro” Epps. We think you’ll enjoy our conversation, we’ve shared it below.
Hi LeeAndra “Dj Chef Dro”, thanks for joining us today. How do you feel about asking friends and family to support your business? What’s appropriate, what’s not? Where do you draw the line?
Asking your friends and family for support is such a weird space but it’s only in the beginning that it feels like this. In the beginning of starting something new sometimes it seems like you’re the only one that sees the vision completely. Friends and family have a way of only seeing what’s present/current and care so much about you they project their fears of failure on you. Truth is it will be strangers that support you the most and sometimes breathe more life into your dreams than you do yourself. They see the journey from the outside
As always, we appreciate you sharing your insights and we’ve got a few more questions for you, but before we get to all of that can you take a minute to introduce yourself and give our readers some of your back background and context?
LeeAndra (Dj) Chef Dro been working in the food industry about 18 years. When it comes to music that’s been all my life. So I started off just working in restaurants and since i realized i appreciated this lane of work I decided to go to culinary school. Graduated and quickly realized that working in high turnover restaurants wasn’t a great life choice either. So I started selling plates. Which turned into a profitable catering company. But as I kept growing with the food I saw my other passions needed attention as well. So during the pandemic “Feed Your Soul” was birthed an online radio show premiered on Dj Bee’s Fresh Radio. First started off with curated playlists played in order then turned into me buying a controller and mixing my own hour mixes practicing and getting good at it. Feed Your Soul is now a moving factor in my business and is growing into enjoyably experience the goal is to take these curated experiences on a tour. I’m proud of how everything I’ve created were my ideas.
What’s worked well for you in terms of a source for new clients?
Best source of new clients will always be Word of Mouth! And social media second over the years I’ve learned that it’s either one of the two. Giving that A-1 service from start to finish, because that’s what people are paying for.
Can you share a story from your journey that illustrates your resilience?
Fun fact.. it took me three different start ups of my business. It’s like every time I wanted to start my car would break down. I would have to move, it was almost like all no’s for some time. I wanted to quit my job and just work for myself full time. The third time I ended up losing my job and decided i would just ride it out and never go back to working for anyone else. My close friend Kamal gave me a key to his house and I started it up. For months i made mostly nothing and was so slow i watched Netflix more than any food I sold. But as word grew so did business
