We were lucky to catch up with Lee Torain recently and have shared our conversation below.

Lee, thanks for taking the time to share your stories with us today What’s the backstory behind how you came up with the idea for your business?

Barkery & Brew was born in the pandemic. Being a personal trainer and personal chef during the pandemic saw my income go to nothing. Being out of work and having a lot of time on my hands forced me to think about ways to diversify my income. Several years ago I had toyed with the idea of starting a food truck but was not happy about how much of an initial investment it was going to take to launch. We had recently got a new dog and I started to bake treats for her. This expanded to also baking treats for friend’s dogs. I started to wonder how I could turn this into a business and Barkery & Brew was born. Having used an electric bike for my means of transportation since 2006 I started researching an electric bike/trike I could use to turn into my mobile barkery. In the end I had the trike custom built as nothing on the market fit my needs. The custom built trike is a real show stopper and another way that we set ourselves apart from other treat vendors.

Barkery & Brew is Fort Lauderdale’s only dog treat trike serving handmade healthy grain free dog treats to the pups and cold brew coffee and hibiscus tea to their peeps. We pride ourselves on providing dog owners with healthy and fresh treats that they can feel good about giving to their four legged best friend.

What’s been the best source of new clients for you?

The best source of new clients for Barkery & Brew have been our Yappy Hours that we host at luxury apartment/condo buildings. It’s a great way for residents to meet each other with their dogs in a social setting. We work with the building concierge to put on these events monthly.

Okay – so how did you figure out the manufacturing part? Did you have prior experience?

Barkery & Brew prides itself on our treats being handmade, grain free and healthy. The fact that our treats are baked fresh for each of our events really sets us apart from other treat makers or stores. Our customers love that fact that they know that what they are feeding their pup is good for them and also fresh.
