We recently connected with Lee mason York and have shared our conversation below.
Lee mason, thanks for taking the time to share your stories with us today When did you first know you wanted to pursue a creative/artistic path professionally?
Whenever i sort of discovered that i was making something and people seemed to respond to the work, meaning that i felt like i was actually able to successfully communicate something that seemed to resonate with an audience. When i got that feeling i kind of knew i was going to really pursue this.

As always, we appreciate you sharing your insights and we’ve got a few more questions for you, but before we get to all of that can you take a minute to introduce yourself and give our readers some of your back background and context?
As an artist i really am just trying to express myself. I struggle with a lot of different things and art seems to help me through that. Im mostly just focused on creating something i feel proud of or look at and think “wow i actually pulled this one off” you know? I really focused on creating a style that is immediately recognizable as my work, but not derivative of anyone else. I think im starting to touch that place, and in some moments it comes out really effortlessly; right now unfortunately im really struggling to produce it. I dont know what that means for me.

Is there a particular goal or mission driving your creative journey?
I know it sounds stupid and kind of cliche but i feel like the universe is telling me im supposed to make art. Not in any sort of “god is talking to me” craziness but just by circumstance. I’ve always been a person that really struggles with having an identity. You know, something that grounds me and gives me a sense of agency in the world. A lot of the time if im not careful or start thinking too much i end up spiraling into a kind of existential crisis, if im being honest im kind of always on the edge of that. But through out my life arts always been there, and every time i really put time into it it sells or people tell me that this is what im supposed to be doing, nothing else in my life has had that kind of staying power, its followed me wherever i go. So im kind of banking on that, that this is what im supposed to do here, and as identities go, being an artist aint so bad.

What do you find most rewarding about being a creative?
Just being able to express myself. A lot of times of i have such a hard time communicating how i feel, when i can make something that people like, its like the exact opposite feeling of that. It makes me feel like im able to really be heard.
