We recently connected with Lee Leprechaun and have shared our conversation below.
Lee, appreciate you joining us today. We’d love to hear about when you first realized that you wanted to pursue a creative path professionally.
I first knew I wanted to pursue an artist path professionally all the way back in high school. I always told myself I would never work a 9-5 job. Which is weird because being an artist is almost 24/7. You wake up and create. It could be anything from an idea you just note down really quick, promotion material for an upcoming song or even just managing your socials to keep everything organized. You’re almost always working on something.
Lee, love having you share your insights with us. Before we ask you more questions, maybe you can take a moment to introduce yourself to our readers who might have missed our earlier conversations?
I am a producer and label owner/manager. I’ve been producing and performing my own music since around 2016. I’ve been signed to various labels over years and decided to obtain my LLC and start my own. I deiced to start my own label after having some bad experiences with some. I won’t name any names, but they basically took the rights of some the songs and wanted me to pay to get them back. I got the music back eventually but was not a fun experience. With my label, you’ll always own the rights to your music. We only sign the rights to distribute it for two years. The artist will be free to do whatever they want with the music as long as it isn’t released with another label during the term. After that, it is free game and up to the artist what they want to do. As a smaller label, we don’t have much of a following but we are slowly growing. We’ve signed four artist this year so far and have releases every month through May.
What do you think is the goal or mission that drives your creative journey?
Our particular goal with the label is help artist get their music on beatport. Beatport is a popular site where artists and Djs purchase music to perform live. A lot of artists have a hard time getting music on the site, because it has to be involved with a label, that is where I come in. Now we don’t just sign any music. The music goes through a review process before being considered.
For you, what’s the most rewarding aspect of being a creative?
The most rewarding aspect of owning a label is the being able to be an artist first label. Being able to help show them the ropes and give their music the opportunity to be heard by different audiences around the world. Getting the response after informing the artist they’ve been picked is an amazing feeling. You can feel the excitement in the conversation.
