Lee, thanks for joining us, excited to have you contributing your stories and insights. When did you first know you wanted to pursue a creative/artistic path professionally?
Hi , my name is Lee Johnson, better know As ( Boss Tripp 4tre). Birthday January 31 , Im a artist / barber / promoter / engineer/ manager/ jack of all trades from the east side San Antonio. Where I grew up in a two parent house hold , my mother and step pops, i also gave a lot of siblings I’m close with, they keep me grounded and motivated to keep striving for what I strongly believe in and passionate about which is music. I been around music all my life. My older brother k9 da head banga who is now facing 30 years in the pen , was one of my biggest inspirations as a rapper. When growing up going to his shows seeing him and his group Texas made do they thing on the stage and seeing my brother telling his story and people giving him love and getting respect from legends in Texas like Tre the truth and others made me want to be a rapper. Also seeing my older relative jDuce who is also in the pen was a rapper and a barber showed me the ropes on How to record myself, at the time I really wasn’t taking it serious but as of 3 and half years ago I jus started taking it serious. I was just really tryna get a artist to rep me and my little brother Masta Johnson brand (Bossed Up Productions LLC ) and couldn’t find one who was consistent enough. I also wanted to be a manager to some of the local artist in my city because I seen that they wasn’t seeing their full patental and getting what they deserve. So I started doing the research on how i can be a artist and started getting studio equipment and wanted to record artist but no one was consistent with coming. “ i wasn’t saling my equipment” I told my self , so I jumped behind the mic and started tryna perfect myself as a rapper.

Lee, before we move on to more of these sorts of questions, can you take some time to bring our readers up to speed on you and what you do?
I wasn’t that good at first but I stayed consistent and got better with time. In a year deep as a rapper I lost my mother who supported me in whatever I did, April 21 2020 was like the worse day of my life. I ended up losing myself in the mist. But having my one of my siblings who is now my manager and business partner masta johnson being a big push in my life, help me through the whole situation also getting me my first big feature with ( Hot Boy Turk ) on my single -No Time I was excited but also hurt . I had to channel all the hurt I was going through in my music and keep my head up high because I knew what my mother wanted from me was to be successful. So I kept going and didn’t give up. Through my career I have traveled state to state going to Atlanta , for the ugly money summit where I ran into (Derez De’Shon) one of my biggest inspirations with his pain music, I ended up gettin a feature from called (Ghetto Struggle) ! Which has been on the radio a few times now!! The summit was a great experience for a lot of artist all over the world. I also got to go LA for BET weekend and perform in font of music execs and coalition djs . That was a big learning experience for me . I took alot of what I learned and applied it to my everyday hustle and promotion. While dropped my first ep called (growth ) just telling my story to the world on who I am and what I was going through!! I found out I had I baby on the way which made me the happiest man in the world because I always wanted kids. I knew i had to go harder because I have something I’m doing this for now . As time past I ended up working with two of ugly money artist China mone and streetbaby zae and also with Djs from out Atlanta , Austin , Dallas and Miami. That got me some placements on some mixtapes that they hosted. Now that I’m 3 years in the game I’ve been on radio interviews with big heff radio show and dc ncompany out in Cleveland Ohio thanks to my manager and his connections , also meeting with alot of important people that can help me further my career in music. It’s been bitter sweet through my whole rapper career but I’ve never gave up because I knew I had a bigger purpose in life. Music has brought me to a level of peace and prosperity as I’m able to vent and express myself my intellectual side . It opened my eyes to things id never thought I would see and opened doors that I couldn’t fathom being opened. As a San Antonio rapper it was hard to get the exposure I needed to get further because there wasn’t really any real Avenues for local artist to get the exposure we needed to get to the top unless we left our city. So I had to leave just to get a better understanding. Now that I see what we are missing I’ve been bringing everything I learned back to the city like shows that have something Artist can network and learn from to build up there Artist skills with some of the new connections I’ve gained. I feel like it can help me as a artist looking for longevity in my music career pushing other artist and perfecting my craft I could be the next masta p or p diddy. As of now I’m working with artist from my city to help get them to the nexts level as I do myself with making sure they own their music the right way and being a Boss. I now own my own studio and also help promote some of the local clubs. It’s a heart ace some times but it’s all worth it to me because of the passion I have for music. I have one thing I know I’m doing all this for and that’s my family especially my daughter!!! I want to show her a better life than from how I grew up and show her how to be a Boss and be independent!! The love I have for music I can see she going to love it as well …..

How did you build your audience on social media?
When I was young I was a all around hustler I did everything I could jus to make some money , from cutting grass and saling candy. When I hit 8 year old I was always around my cousin who was older and a jack of all trades like myself I seen that’s he could draw and cut hair and other things that inspired me to want to take interest in cutting hair . I knew how to draw and I was a fast learner. So I ended up getting my own pare of clipper and I started cutting all the little kids in my neighborhood. I was just charging $5 going around knocking on people door. Further in my barber career I had gotten better and I stated gaining more clients because I was consistent with everyone and posting my hair cuts on social media with my famous designs I was doing. “ I could literally do anything in someone head ! That’s how I gained a name for myself ( Boss Tripp ) and I started saying “ come get bossed up not tossed up) and everyone that’s came to me always said it . So I knew I had to keep posting my hair cuts and business on social media and keep giving my exclusive content to gain some traction to my page which brought me more clientele and now I’m living off of cutting hair haven’t had I real job in years . The love of a barber now I do music and cut hair and I told myself, with the same energy I put behind my clipper I’ma put in this music and I’ve been getting the same results!! Just gotta keep pushing is what i tell everyone never give up on what u believe in and keep strong faith in the higher power he shall always protect you in your every move with prayer …

Is there mission driving your creative journey?
The main thing that drives my creative journey is my daughter. I goal is to get myself in a better position to make sure she gets everything I didn’t have plus. It’s wasn’t easy growing up and seeing my mom and step pops struggle with bills and still able to keep food on the table and cloths on our back . Maybe wasn’t what we wanted but we were greatful because we seen how hard they worked just to make it happen. I want to make sure my daughter doesn’t have to experience the heart aces I’ve endured growing up . I want my grand kids grand kids to be good !!!!
