We’re excited to introduce you to the always interesting and insightful Lee Campbell. We hope you’ll enjoy our conversation with Lee below.
Hi Lee, thanks for joining us today. We’d love to have you retell us the story behind how you came up with the idea for your business, I think our audience would really enjoy hearing the backstory.
After the 2020 Pandemic, many people were laid off or had their positions terminated, leading to a economic as well as an emotion crisis. For the first time ever, people began to realize that their employment was not guaranteed and from there a new wave of entrepreneurs were born. The only problem was, that most were first-time business owners, and weren’t aware of the difficulties that building a company presented.
Attempting to educate themselves, new business owners were bombarded with information overload; and were receiving differing opinions, with no one they felt they could trust to show them the way. In other words, they were lost.
I had been doing well working as a business consultant for several years prior, utilizing my study of psychology at Georgia State University, my corporate career and the building of my own personal brand as a catalyst for my teachings.
Normally I would focus on working with a specific clientele that were able to afford my consulting fees, but once I saw how so many new entrepreneurs needed education at affordable pricing, the idea for Baddie Boss University was born
With a focus on business education, Baddie Boss University offers online classes every month with topics ranging from drop shipping, to email marketing, and even monetizing social media pages.
In addition we also host in-person meetups and networking opportunities within different cities. and I have also given out grants to members.
Last but not least, my members also have access to private coaching opportunities with me, to get the personalized help that they need,
My goal goal for creating Baddie Boss University was to bring together entrepreneurial women and create a safe haven of support, motivation and resources for my members to grow and flourish in their business pursuit.
It is my mission to continue to motivate and inspire more women to chase their dreams
Lee, before we move on to more of these sorts of questions, can you take some time to bring our readers up to speed on you and what you do?
One thing about me is that I am all about community. I believe that my focus on bringing people together started as a child, Growing up in Hawaii, I felt that I was a part of something. That mine and the other families living on the island had each other’s backs. Despite what I looked like, in my eyes I was Hawaiian. Living in paradise also brings a heightened sense of freedom, happiness and individualism where I would be myself. Life felt like a vacation everyday and I knew I wanted to enjoy it while I could.
Moving to Atlanta was a complete shift, and here it was all about the hustle. I quickly adapted, understanding that financial freedom was new goal for me, even at a young age. In reality I have been an entrepreneur since I was seven years old, and it was my experiences that I have gone through over the past twenty years that have built the foundation of my coaching practice as well as Baddie Boss University.
Can you open up about how you funded your business?
How to get funding is the number one question that I get as a coach. Although over time I have gotten capital from things such as investors, loans and business credit, It didn’t start out that way.
My book was the first product that I ever launched, and originally it was funded by me taking the income from my job and investing a portion into the development and publication.
Once I realized that by doing that it would take me much longer than I wanted to release the book, I started a GoFundMe and within thirty minutes I had raised $300.
From there on I was able to exceed by fundraising goal, utilize the funds to not only release my book, but host an event that would be the start of my career as a business coach.
I would like to encourage everyone seeking funding that you possess everything that you need to obtain capital, but it is only you who must go out and get it, ask people to invest, get told no and still keep going.
If you are persistent, it will come to you in unique and unexpected ways.
What’s been the most effective strategy for growing your clientele?
My most effective strategy is simple for growing clientele is simple.
I utilize Facebook to build relationships that eventually turn into customers.
I don’t use my social media accounts as a consumer, but instead a producer where
I post valuable information to my target audience that gets their attention.
Simultaneously I connect with my audience in a real way, by either offering free consultation calls, creating virtual events
and regularly going live which builds trust while also displaying my expertise.
