We were lucky to catch up with Lee “Aminna” Buchanan recently and have shared our conversation below.
Alright, Lee “Aminna” thanks for taking the time to share your stories and insights with us today. We’d love to hear about how you got your first non-friend, non-family client. Paint the picture for us so we can feel the same excitement you felt on that day.
So exciting! years ago my first clients were a family who relocated to Texas. The wife contacted me via social media inquiring about my services and wanted to know if I could assist them. I was ecstatic and rose to the occasion! A little background, I have a mortgage background of 18 years so transitioning to real estate was a piece of cake for me. Relocation clients are always a joy and a rollercoaster ride. My clients were first-time homebuyers and were eager to shop for homes. Once we got them pre=approved my clients flew into Texas and we tirelessly viewed homes from sunup to sundown on a Saturday and Sunday. My clients decided on a new construction home that was in the process of being completed. Not all relocation shopping trips are a breeze like my first clients, but I was lucky because it was a seamless process. My clients flew back in for closing day, they signed the documents, received their keys and we celebrated, and I showered them with closing gifts for their brand-new home.!
Lee “Aminna”, before we move on to more of these sorts of questions, can you take some time to bring our readers up to speed on you and what you do?
Sure thing! I decided to become a real estate agent after working in the mortgage industry for 18years. I simply got burned out and wanted a change. I provide for my clients an experience from start to finish. I am very transparent and very knowledgeable about the industry as a whole which is a benefit to my clients. Social media platforms are the reason I have a thriving real estate business today. I am constantly purchasing ads that run monthly as well as all of the marketing that I do for myself. Many things set me apart from other agents. I pride myself on going above and beyond for my clients. I treat my lease clients the same as I treat my buyers and sellers. I offer suggestions and advice. I treat my clients like “people” and not just a transaction. I help people accomplish their dream of HOWEOWNERSHIP! I am most proud of the continuous referrals I receive from past and present clients. Afterall, this is a referral business! I want people to know that whether you are leasing, buying or selling, I will answer all of your questions and even help with the leg work. I have and still do assist clients with packing boxes, running errands, making videos, picking up keys and more! I am building a relationship with my clients that I want to last forever. My mother always tells me that I treat my clients like they are family, and I hope my clients feel like all of their needs are being met and that they make an excellent choice when they chose me to represent them with one of the most important decisions in their life… homeownership.
Can you tell us about a time you’ve had to pivot?
In real estate you will always find yourself having to “pivot!” You have to be very savvy to be a real estate agent because it’s not for the weak! As an agent, to date I would say that the biggest pivot I had to make was to stay relevant when covid hit and during covid. Real estate has never been the same since covid hit and it very well may never be the same. I knew that when covid hit I had to get creative to keep my business viable. My strategy included taking on more clients who needed rentals/leases and the lease to purchase program in an effort to navigate the crazy and unstable market and thank God it worked out for me!
How’d you build such a strong reputation within your market?
I think what has helped me build my reputation in the market is the wealth of knowledge that I have and continue to share with people. I pride myself of attending trainings and meetings and staying “in the know” on all thing’s real estate! What I have found over the years is that people love INFORMATION, especially if they can benefit from that information. Storytime! I have a text message that I saved from a lady who follows me on social media and who told me that she put my business card on her vision board and her goal was to work with me as her agent to help her find her first home. Messages like this tug on my heartstring’s. Imagine being on someone’s vision board, how cool is that?! I have another message from a lady who follows me on social media, and she told me that even though we don’t know each other, compared to other realtors on social media I am educational and full of knowledge and that she appreciates the posts that I make. She also told me thank you and as soon as she is ready to purchase, she will be calling me! I love to receive these kinds of messages! I shared these 2 messages to say this, you never know who is watching you and this is why I try to always be authentic and by doing this the clients find me as well.
