We caught up with the brilliant and insightful Leaving Lennox a few weeks ago and have shared our conversation below.
Leaving , thanks for taking the time to share your stories with us today We’d love to hear the backstory behind a risk you’ve taken – whether big or small, walk us through what it was like and how it ultimately turned out.
Hi! We’re Mick and Lauren AKA Leaving Lennox, an Australian-born duo who made the move halfway across the world back in 2019. This was definitely one of the biggest risks we’ve ever taken and even though it hasn’t always been smooth sailing, we have never looked back on our decision.
After performing full-time in Australia, touring the East Coast multiple times and creating our LL fan-base back at home, we decided it was time for the next thing. We were selected to perform as featured artists on Carnival Cruise Lines for about a year and we absolutely loved it. We always acknowledge cruise ships as reason we moved over to Nashville and we feel it really opened our eyes to what the USA had to offer, in terms of our Artistry. While Cruise ships was one of the most fun and carefree experiences of our life and helped us meet a lot of amazing people/fans, we both always craved more.
Nashville seemed like a really great next step for us, as we are performers/singer-songwriters and wanted to immerse ourselves into the industry/community here – but it was also so daunting! We were coming here knowing absolutely no one. Like we said earlier, it hasn’t always been an easy road, but rejection and growth has been a big part of it for us and we are ready to keep hustling until we achieve our goals here in this big little town.
As always, we appreciate you sharing your insights and we’ve got a few more questions for you, but before we get to all of that can you take a minute to introduce yourself and give our readers some of your back background and context?
We (Leaving Lennox) are a husband and wife Country-pop music duo, originally from Sydney Australia! Our brand is all about authenticity. We love to get to know our fans, share our lifestyle, our performances, writing, BTS, or random Tiktoks…. oh and also lotssss of dog videos (he’s pretty much the third band member at this point).
We are most proud of what we have achieved so far within our short time here in the USA and have absolutely LOVED our time here. Some highlights would include performing bigger shows and festivals this year, as well as writing, producing and releasing all our own music. We are extremely proud with what we have put out in the world and often pinch ourselves that we can continue to be writing, creating and performing m our songs to crowds everyday. Follow us on Spotify or wherever you stream music at “Leaving Lennox”, to listen to our latest release!
We’d love to hear a story of resilience from your journey.
We definitely believe that with any Artist or Creative – obstacles are apart of the process. I think advice we would give, if we were ever in the position to give any is to remember that Music/drawing/filmmaking are all such subjective mediums and just because you encounter a rejection, doesn’t mean you shouldn’t feel validated in your craft. We have been knocked back from festivals, line ups, labels, gee even trolled social media, but resilience is definitely important in this industry. Having a tough skin goes a long way!
In your view, what can society to do to best support artists, creatives and a thriving creative ecosystem?
The best thing you can do for musicians/creatives, is to find artists that you LOVE and support them religiously. Sharing, streaming, following, telling your friends – it allll helps towards our end goal. We cant thank our supporters enough for doing these things!
