Alright – so today we’ve got the honor of introducing you to Leanna Carter. We think you’ll enjoy our conversation, we’ve shared it below.
Hi Leanna, thanks for joining us today. Let’s start with the story of your mission. What should we know?
I am the wife to a truck driver who has worked nonstop for the last 13 years of our lives together. I have noticed that he is missing all the things when it comes to our children’s lives. I decided that as a Realtor, I could help shorten his time on the road so I overcame all my anxiety about how this would look in my head and went to real estate school. I did not expect to pass the state licensing exam on the first try but my motivation is pure and my desire to succeed is HUGE!

Leanna, love having you share your insights with us. Before we ask you more questions, maybe you can take a moment to introduce yourself to our readers who might have missed our earlier conversations?
Hi, my name is Leanna Carter and I am a Realtor with Grow Local Realty in North Carolina. I became a Realtor to help move my family forward and relieve the single income barrier to our desire to be a better and stronger family. I have 3 children and 3 dog kids also. I believe completely in being the last Realtor my clients need or want to call. I am the best place for what they need and in doing so my needs meet theirs. I have urgency unlike other agents and I do not allow for their questions or concerns to go unresolved. I am very proud of my work with first time homebuyers and my knowledge of new construction. I would want a new client to know that I will not stop to get them to the finish line. I have incredible partners in my profession from lending to home inspections. My firm is local and small and we do not believe in team mentalities outside of supporting each other as a whole team. We don’t outsource our clients needs. We handle it. We don’t sign an agreement to represent you and then pass you off to 15 other unrelated people. Collectively our office as a whole is available for all your needs from investing to buying and selling.
Learning and unlearning are both critical parts of growth – can you share a story of a time when you had to unlearn a lesson?
This is an interesting thought…I had to unlearn that being outspoken and tenacious is a BAD THING. As a person, I have always been the one that is too loud, too much and just more personality than others in a corporate setting could manage. I never fit in anywhere. I could make a desk job work because I had children to feed but it was not where I belonged. Real estate is a place where my advocacy and voice is heard and needed. My clients need my expertise and tenacity to help them manage their own fears and concerns of the largest transaction they might ever make in their lives. I had to unlearn that what makes me great is my voice.

Can you tell us about a time you’ve had to pivot?
Pivoting is a big deal for most people but as a mom to three kids and one of them on the Spectrum, all Ive done is pivot. I went into real estate with the assumption it would be something I could use to show my children that I can work hard and still be available to them. My son has needs that are a full time job and if I worked at a desk in an office, I could not be available to him or his school as needed. I am able to manage my family and my clients due to the freedom this career give us.
