We caught up with the brilliant and insightful LeAndrew “SR Will” Pearson a few weeks ago and have shared our conversation below.
LeAndrew “SR Will”, looking forward to hearing all of your stories today. What do you think matters most in terms of achieving success?
I think that the term “successful” can mean a wide variety of things. Many can have small victories but never grasp their ultimate goal. for some, that ultimate goal is all that they see. For me, Success is a puzzle piece. The more pieces I collect, the bigger my image becomes. With that said, I believe these three things are what it takes to be successful. First is a no brainer, hard work. treat your work ethics and professionalism (not ego) like you are already selling out shows. No matter the level of talent, People will not work with lazy. Second, be consistent. I still struggle with this. Notoriety is like a locomotive, you have to keep up that momentum otherwise you risk having to restart that engine which that can be difficult for some. So stay consistent. I don’t mean put out a song once a week just find what works for you and see what your audience expects. Lastly, your success should be based solely on you and no one else. There’s a saying I once heard, “compare yourself to who you were yesterday and not who someone else is today.” I have held on to that saying because in order to reach your goals you have to first be able to see them. So work hard, be consistent and enjoy your small victories.
As always, we appreciate you sharing your insights and we’ve got a few more questions for you, but before we get to all of that can you take a minute to introduce yourself and give our readers some of your back background and context?
For those who don’t know me, I go by SR Will (short for Storm Rider Will but pronounced Sir Will). I am a Christian hip-hop artist out of Northeast Ohio who’s main objective is to help people through their storms. I, like many, have had a share in life. family mistrust, drugs, financial woes, depression and pride among many others. It took time and it took the love of Jesus to get me through. The man I stand as today was not made overnight and I hope by sharing my experiences, many wont get caught in the rain as long as I did.
This is how we become “Storm Riders”. No longer feeding into the fear that our valleys present us but knowing that there is a lover name Jesus who is with us through our battles and can conquer all things. The hindsight of many hard lessons is that sometimes we wouldn’t be where we are without them. So instead of dwelling in the rain, we ride knowing that there’s a blessing in the storm..
This has been a three year journey and we are just getting started. I have been blessed to do many shows around the Northeast Ohio area, West Michigan and recently Myrtle Beach. We jump. We sing. We pray and one by one, we get through these storms together.
For you, what’s the most rewarding aspect of being a creative?
Building relationships with fans and peers. I’ve learned so much from watching and talking to people more experienced than I. I’ve also learned that despite my lack of knowledge in some departments, I still can be helpful with the talents I’ve been given. Whether they be a fan or a colleague, I’m presented many opportunities to learn and teach.
What’s been the best source of new clients for you?
Definitely Instagram. I try to stick with what I understand best. that doesn’t mean I don’t have a tik-tok or twitter or Facebook or anything like that but I’ve been able to convey my message and communicate best with my followers though Instagram. Which is @stormriderwill btw
