Leandra , thanks for taking the time to share your stories with us today Any thoughts around creating more inclusive workplaces?

Having an Inclusive workspace is important and a big part of our salon workspace it allows everyone’s needs of comfortability to be met. As well as new ones introduced; for example, having a wide range of cultures and genders represented, it introduces a new flavor and way of doing things other than your own, and can positively impact the productivity of your business.

Leandra , before we move on to more of these sorts of questions, can you take some time to bring our readers up to speed on you and what you do?

My name is Leandra Frost, owner and operator of Extensions by Lee LLC. I’ve been in business for over ten years. I’m a 39 year old working mom, partner, business owner. I come from a long line of family who are cosmetologist and barbers. I specialize in braid extensions, weaving and locs. We are located in El Cajon and Temecula but we are also mobile which means we can come to you. The biggest problem solver that my business brings is taking care of my clients morning fuss. For example, waking up in the morning and grooming hair is not a part of many families daily routine, therefore my styles whether locs, braids, cornrows or extensions allows families to wake up go. We also fulfill the need of providing, reliable, consistent, clean, upscale work that clients can depend on. One of the things of many, that I’m most proud about my business is that I’m able to show up fully the way my clients’ need me to show up and providing that consistently for them is one of the things I’m most proud of.

If you have multiple revenue streams in your business, would you mind opening up about what those streams are and how they fit together?

Extensions by lee not only offers a private intimate studio setting but we also have our mobile services available for those who are homebased working, in assisted living/skilled nursing facilities and hospitals (“per facility visiting regulations”). Can you talk to us about how your side-hustle turned into something more.

My side hustle of braiding turn into my main source of income and only job. I was a nurse assistant in school for my nursing degree when a career change and client influx allowed me to realize my full potential in myself. It was solidified when I went to church one day and a person that didn’t even know me told me God said, ” I was going to have to choose.” Not knowing I’ve just received a large influx of clients and I was asking myself how am I going to manage both. I took a leap of faith, self determination, a whole lot of hope, and at the time not as much faith because it wasn’t as solid as a paycheck. I did it anyway and ten years later I’m still in business. Although there were many lessons along the way, for example learning that you have to allocate your own money and its proper places and my favorite just because the business is making money doesn’t mean you are making the money. Which simply means making sure money is allocated in its proper place in the proper time.
