We caught up with the brilliant and insightful Leah Wilkerson a few weeks ago and have shared our conversation below.
Alright, Leah thanks for taking the time to share your stories and insights with us today. Let’s start with the story of your mission. What should we know?
Later in life, I discovered my love for painting. I spent hours in my basement studio, experimenting with new techniques and developing my style. At first, the solitude felt peaceful—refreshing even—after years of being a stay-at-home mom, constantly juggling carpools, schedules, church volunteering, and school activities. Then, my kids flew the nest, heading off to school. Suddenly, my days shifted from nonstop activity to quiet moments spent painting and listening to podcasts. It was enjoyable for a while, but I couldn’t shake the feeling that something was missing. I just wasn’t sure what.
Running a business solo can be isolating. There were so many things I felt I should know, yet I had no one to ask. And putting yourself out there? That’s tough.
Then, I found a few artist friends. We started meeting up to chat, share ideas, and exchange resources. What a difference it made to have a support system! They encouraged me to experiment, take risks, and dream bigger. My confidence grew, and my work improved. I had found my people.
As it turns out, we weren’t the only ones who found this kind of support invaluable. Our group expanded to include designers, authors, coaches, marketers, and curators—entrepreneurs from all walks of life. Even though we weren’t in the same industries, we all had something to share… and so much to learn. And that’s how Women for Women (W4W) was born.

Leah, before we move on to more of these sorts of questions, can you take some time to bring our readers up to speed on you and what you do?
Most successful missions begin with a need. For W4W, that need was clear: to bring together solo women entrepreneurs for collaboration, encouragement, and support. We saw so many women navigating business alone, craving connection, inspiration, and a space to share knowledge. W4W was created to fill that gap—not just as a networking group, but as a true community where women uplift one another.
Beyond building connections, we create opportunities—whether it’s selling our goods, promoting our services, or gaining valuable business insights. Running a business can feel overwhelming, but having a network to bounce ideas off of, learn from, and grow alongside makes the journey more rewarding. We believe in sharing knowledge freely because when one of us succeeds, we all do.
For many of our members, this is a second career, a passion finally pursued. But we’re not about rigid rules or corporate structures. W4W is a place where you can show up as yourself, speak openly, and tackle challenges together. We celebrate wins, offer support during setbacks, and encourage each other to keep moving forward. What sets us apart is that we’re not just about business—we’re about people.
I’m proud that W4W fosters authenticity, where members feel safe to be real. And with authenticity comes respect, trust, and most importantly, encouragement. Because when women support women, incredible things happen.

We’d love to hear about how you keep in touch with clients.
Communication is the glue that holds W4W together. We’re all about staying connected, sharing ideas, and cheering each other on. Here’s how we keep the conversation going and build a community people want to be part of.
Each week, we send an email with the latest W4W happenings—upcoming events, member wins, and valuable resources—so everyone stays in the loop. But we know life gets busy, so we use Circle as our virtual hub, where members can access past discussions, resources, and helpful materials anytime.
Beyond our monthly in-person meetings, Circle keeps the conversation going. Through discussions and questions, members connect, understand each other’s businesses, and find common ground.
Then there’s social media—a powerful tool for W4W. It allows us to showcase who we are and amplify our members’ voices by sharing their posts and stories, expanding their reach.
At the core of W4W is consistency, authenticity, engagement, and a commitment to building a strong, supportive community.

Do you have any insights you can share related to maintaining high team morale?
At W4W, we keep things positive—celebrating wins, big or small, with shout-outs and spotlights. Success is contagious, and who doesn’t love a little recognition?
We believe in giving more than we get. That means sharing quick tips, behind-the-scenes moments, and thoughtful replies—because kindness matters. We also provide free resources, workshops, and collab opportunities to help everyone level up together.
And let’s be real—business isn’t always easy. That’s why we share both wins and struggles, building trust and a stronger community. We love shining a light on our members’ work because good communication, positivity, and support keep people coming back.
That’s what makes W4W more than a group—it’s a family. Because when we communicate well, we grow well.
