We caught up with the brilliant and insightful Leah Moore a few weeks ago and have shared our conversation below.
Leah, thanks for joining us, excited to have you contributing your stories and insights. What was the most important lesson/experience you had in a job that has helped you in your professional career?
On my path to becoming a holistic wellness coach, I worked as a personal trainer at a gym for17 years. That was the perfect environment to coach a diverse clientele with a variety of health and fitness goals. You could almost call it a lab, where I got to understand human nature, habits and mindsets that either helped or hindered whether clients reached their goals. My big takeaway from the experience was that for quicker results that last, wellness issues need to be solved at the root. This requires a holistic approach because the whole body is connected. The immune, hormone, emotional and nervous systems all affect one another. And what’s going on there, creates physical manifestations in our bodies. So symptoms clients often had like chronic pain, excess body fat, stiffness, lethargy and poor digestion usually can’t be fully resolved with mindful eating, exercise and stretching alone. There’s typically a stressful dynamic that’s fueling the undesirable symptom. One that the client can’t clearly see. This led me to adopt a holistic approach that includes uncovering the hidden dynamic affecting how a woman’s body looks, feels and functions.
Great, appreciate you sharing that with us. Before we ask you to share more of your insights, can you take a moment to introduce yourself and how you got to where you are today to our readers.
I created BodyLove, my system of guiding the soul-led, heart-centered leader or creative to the physical conditioning she desires. My wellness offerings honor her Divine Feminine energy and amplifies her personal power.
My path as a wellness expert was born at age 7 when I found myself waking up at 5:30a to exercise with a show on TV, just for fun! So not surprisingly, I became a certified personal trainer in 2003. My clients desperately needed help with their diets, so I became a nutritionist in 2010. But, I still saw some clients doing things that directly opposed reaching their wellness goals.
Eventually, I realized they weren’t sabotaging themselves on purpose. There were subconscious forces inside of them, blocking their progress.
It can be hard to clear blocks you’re not aware of. So knowing which one subconsciously fuels a stressful relationship with your body is a game changer. I’ve identified these 5 blockers:
The Go-Go-Goddess: dominates in high achievers whose busy schedule of doing and achieving leaves little time for adequate regeneration. This can leave her burnt out and struggling with chronic pain or dis-ease.
The MindLeader: lurks when constant overthinking fuels a disconnected relationship with her body. In this energy-draining state, her body’s cues can be ignored and unmet.
The Perfectionista: can manifest as a stressful inner voice that imposes harsh rules and strict diets on her. The perfection it requires may keep her from starting or sticking with her chosen wellness routine.
The Warrioress: plays out in patterns of overgiving, feeling resentment and anger outbursts (if these frustrations are suppressed). This inner tension can fuel physical muscle tension and cravings for fat or carbs.
The EscapeArtist: found in deep feeling or creative types who get overwhelmed by certain emotions or situations. She may “escape” her experience with stress eating, rushing through activities in a stressful way and numbing out with alcohol or drugs.
I created the free Body Love Blocker Quiz as a fun way to reveal which one most blocks your body confidence and how to start clearing it. By just answering 7 quick questions!
So right out of the gate, you can minimize stressful dynamics that sabotage your efforts to have the physical conditioning, energy or body you desire.
My BodyLove System is ultimately a journey to where demonstrative loving up on your body is second nature. I have nutrition, fitness and block-clearing offerings to get you to a place where you love how your body looks, feels or functions.
I see this as one powerful way to further the inner marriage of the divine masculine and divine feminine energies. Transforming their union into a harmonious one…necessary to embody wholeness and personal power. Necessary to create the New Earth, 5D timeline.
I have answered the personal call to embody and co-create the New Earth timeline. To honor the Divine Feminine within and without. And I’m here to support my fellow leaders and creatives, who are fulfilling their soul’s mission with heart, to have the radiant health, body confidence and personal power to do the same.
Because it’s a collective effort… We each have our role to anchor in this expansive timeline of life-giving relating with ourselves, other humans, animals and the planet.
Are there any books, videos, essays or other resources that have significantly impacted your management and entrepreneurial thinking and philosophy?
Yes, the book “The Art of Attracting Clients” by Jesse Koren and Sharla Jacobs. Coming from a gym background, I was initially trained in hard selling techniques to get new clients. This approach of getting anybody to buy and focusing on hitting quotas never resonated with me. So I absolutely loved the Heartselling approach taught in this book. The focus is on having a balanced conversation with a prospective client to see if (1) you can solve the problem they have and (2) if you both are a fit for each other. You don’t try to sell them anything if these conditions aren’t met. It’s really about showing up and serving them in the moment whether they buy from you or not. And if you can’t help them, but know someone who can, you refer them out.
This book also shifted my mindset from “working hard to get clients” to “attracting clients”. When you choose the right niche and your marketing message is aligned to speak directly to them, the right people gravitate to you in a much more easeful way.
Other than training/knowledge, what do you think is most helpful for succeeding in your field?
Being that I’m in the wellness field and I pour into other people, my self care routine has to be impeccable. Otherwise, like other caregivers, I can burn out. To serve my clients at the highest level, I need to consistently fill my own cup and replenish my energy. So I prioritize:
– setting balanced work/rest boundaries for myself
– meditation
– regulating my nervous system
– knowing and honoring when I need solitude
– unstructured play to do what lights me up or relaxes me
