We were lucky to catch up with Leah Lau recently and have shared our conversation below.

Leah, thanks for joining us, excited to have you contributing your stories and insights. What’s the kindest thing anyone has ever done for you?

My guru within this incarnation, Amma Mata Amritanandamayi, the Hugging Saint from India, has given me her darshan blessings and a personal mantra, a Sanskrit phrase on which to meditate and to chant throughout life. Since the 1970s, she has been personally hugging devotees and giving them her blessings. When she gives a devotee mantra, she plants an energetic seed within you that you grow with your own spiritual practices and devotion. When Amma first gave me darshan, she spoke into my right ear and I literally felt a bolt of electricity activating and rewiring my brain, traveling in less than a second from my ear up through my brain to my crown chakra and then up above my head, reaching up to the chakras above my head and to my Higher Soul. I hadn’t known what to expect upon meeting Amma in person, and so was completely open. It was this openness that allowed me to receive the love and activations, the Shakti energy, that she is always sending to the world. When she gave me my mantra, she spoke it in Sanskrit into my left ear. I then went into a training with her senior disciples to practice pronunciation and usage. From that day, I have integrated my mantra into my life, chanting silently throughout every type of activity, including blessing food while cooking.

I’m Leah Lau, energy healer and psychic channel. Other than training/knowledge, what do you think is most helpful for succeeding in your field?

Your love for humanity and wanting to live in Service to Others to uplift this world must come from within. It is only the undeniable light of love that burns within that can sustain you and others through all of life’s changes.

We’d love to hear a story of resilience from your journey.

I am a daughter of 2 generations of refugees and immigrants. My parents and grandparents were survivors of 20 years of war in China: the Chinese Civil War, the Japanese invasion, World War II, and the Communist takeover. They were the embodiment of resilience, love, and forward thinking as they made their way to the United States in the late 1950s and early 1960s. My older sisters and I were born in the San Francisco Bay Area in the 1970s. We grew up hearing our parents’ and grandparents’ stories so that we would know where we came from ancestrally, culturally, and in terms of character. When I was 10 years old, I started working 3 jobs. It is how it was and still is in our family. You show up. You contribute. You take care of the whole. As an adult, this perspective has stayed with me through everything I have ever done. It’s given me the confidence to know I can thrive through anything. I have traveled the country and world solo, doing extensive photography expeditions in the wilderness to the most far-reaching places on our planet. I circumnavigated the world in 2013, and finished getting to all seven continents. Africa and Australia were my last ones. I made it to Antarctica in 2006.
