We caught up with the brilliant and insightful Leah Laiani a few weeks ago and have shared our conversation below.
Alright, Leah thanks for taking the time to share your stories and insights with us today. Did you always know you wanted to pursue a creative or artistic career? When did you first know?
I first knew that I wanted to become a rapper and do music when I was 3 years old. I would go around the house rapping and trying to freestyle.
Awesome – so before we get into the rest of our questions, can you briefly introduce yourself to our readers.
Last year in October 2023, at 8 years old I had gone into the studio for the first time and recorded my first single “Stop It”. It was a very fun and exciting moment for me. I then went on to start performing for my first time in January 2024 with my Dance team at the time Queens United. From there I went on to take on more shows and the bookings started to come through ever since. I’m proud of my growth and the confidence I’ve built from when I first started.
What do you find most rewarding about being a creative?
I love how I can reach people, spread positivity, and do what I love to do. I’m not scared to be in front of people and some are and so to be able to be one who can do that is great. Also, I meet new people and make new fans who actually support me and listen to my music.
Any insights you can share with us about how you built up your social media presence?
I am still building but it started with getting out and doing shows and my mom always makes sure that I’m passing out my business cards. She always tells me they are my money maker. You have to get out there interact with the people and have good marketing strategies set up.
