We caught up with the brilliant and insightful Leah Eva a few weeks ago and have shared our conversation below.
Leah , looking forward to hearing all of your stories today. So, what do you think about family businesses? Would you want your children or other family members to one day join your business?
My family business consist of Real Estate and Comedy. My family business is great because there’s a lot of flexibilities. For instance, I can take a work out class in the middle of the day and my husband can cover for me vice versa. However, there are also a lot of responsibilities because if we don’t close a deal in Real Estate we don’t eat. In our Comedy , business, we have to stay consistent with a great show and make sure everyone is paid at the end of the show. If we had, children, I would want them to be part of the family if they decide to. They have find their passion and go after it. So in both business, we have to stay consistent and be diligent.

As always, we appreciate you sharing your insights and we’ve got a few more questions for you, but before we get to all of that can you take a minute to introduce yourself and give our readers some of your back background and context?
My husband and I are both Realtors and Comedian/Actors. We use of sense of humor, creativity and business skills in both of careers. We focus on taking care of our clients in Real Estate. There’s 2 people working on a deal whether it’s Commercial or Residential. The star of the show are our clients. In Comedy, when we are producing a show, we want to make sure that customers having a great time because the audience make the show. When I’m doing Stand Up, I have to make sure all the jokes work for the crowd, so I need to be able to read the crowd before I hit the stage.

Let’s talk about resilience next – do you have a story you can share with us?
Real Estate:
I had a Commercial client, looking for specific place for their business. There’s nothing listed on the market that matched our clients needs. So, my husband and I had to think outside the box. We drover around, called the management company to let us in the building and convince the landlord to lease a space that not on the market. We had to prove to the Landlord that our client is worth a chance. We invited the landlord and staff to visit the current space to show them that the business is thriving. After, months, or negotiations, we convince the Landlord to give our client a chance. Our client signed a 10 year lease and everyone is happy.

Can you share a story from your journey that illustrates your resilience?
Stand Up Comedy
Everyone shut down during the pandemic, so the Comedy business out of commission. My husband and I had to find a new venue for our show. We finally convinced a Brewery to allow us to produce our show. Since, it’s still the pandemic, we decided to do the show outside patio. On the day of the show, it was raining cats and dogs. We have a sold out show. “Where are we going to do the show? ” We had to change gears and figure things out. We quickly set up indoor, added lights, backdrop, D J booth, microphone etc. We apologize for the rain delay. The show was Standing Room only, all the Comedians had a great set and everyone made money.
