We were lucky to catch up with Leah Ellis recently and have shared our conversation below.
Alright, Leah thanks for taking the time to share your stories and insights with us today. Before we get into specifics, let’s talk about success more generally. What do you think it takes to be successful?
I think it takes insane work ethic and go getter mentality to be successful. You have to put in the work when everyone else isn’t. There are challenges in everything but one thing that remains steady in my life is my faith in Christ. Real success begins by obeying God’s command to repent, believing in Jesus Christ, and following Him in all areas of life.
As always, we appreciate you sharing your insights and we’ve got a few more questions for you, but before we get to all of that can you take a minute to introduce yourself and give our readers some of your back background and context?
My name is Leah Ellis and I am a photographer based out of Middle Tennessee. I took a leap of faith in May 2022 when I decided to announce that I would be taking on clients. I specialize in weddings, couples, families, seniors, branding, etc. I have often been called the chaos coordinator. I offer as much guidance as possible to make my clients time with me, stress free. My clients always tell me how much fun they had, yes even the men. While I take my work seriously, I am anything but! I am silly, loud and always laughing or making others laugh. I am the right fit for anyone who loves photographs with emotion and depth. You need someone to put you at ease in front of the camera. You love candid moments as much as posed ones. You want photographs to genuinely capture personalities. Lord, let them see you in me!
How’d you build such a strong reputation within your market?
My heart behind the lens. I am a firm believer that the lord entrusts each and every person with gifts and talents to use for his glory, and for me photographing us living that out. I want to give an experience. I don’t want to be the girl who just shows up. I want to be the one who dances on the dance floor and is ready with a tissue when they tear up. The one who prays with them or makes them laugh when they are stressed.
What’s the most rewarding aspect of being a creative in your experience?
The relationships and connections I make with my clients is THE MOST rewarding aspect of being a photographer. I began photography with the mission that my images would reflect the depth of each person that steps in front of my camera — the deep joy, hardship, and love that has made them the human they are today. More than anything, I love that I get the opportunity to step into the lives of individuals and families to be a part of their world for a moment. What a privilege! I want your photos to tell your story. To show your soul. To show your love, your grief, your tears, your sheer joy, and all of your happiness. I want it all and I want to give you moments captured for you to relive that moment for years to come.
