We were lucky to catch up with Leah E.B. Ogle recently and have shared our conversation below.
Leah E.B. , appreciate you joining us today. Can you tell us about an important lesson you learned while working at a prior job?
My journey in the baking and pastry world has been full of experiences; from chocolate shops, cupcake shops, to small local bakeries. Yet, it was the eight years spent in a busy grocery store bakery that truly prepared me for the challenges of running my own business.Handling the hustle of customer demands, inventory, and holiday rushes taught me the skills of multitasking and efficient time management.Those years were the building blocks that helped me take the leap to finally chase my dream of running a business of my own.

As always, we appreciate you sharing your insights and we’ve got a few more questions for you, but before we get to all of that can you take a minute to introduce yourself and give our readers some of your back background and context?
My name is Leah E.B. Ogle. I am the owner and executive chef of Briecakemood™ “Savory Subtly Sweet Brie Cheesecake™ established in 2022, in Jacksonville, Florida.. I have been practicing and honing my cheesecake recipe since 2013, when I graduated from culinary school. With the support and encouragement of my business partner & husband, we took what was once an exclusive family favorite and decided to share it with the world! Our Brie cheesecakes are now available at various local farmer’s markets in the Jacksonville, FL area, as well as available to order for special occasions, birthdays, and holidays! Our classic “Original” flavor is always very popular and is the foundation for our other Brie cheesecake creations. For seasonal flavors, we have four, and our menu is complemented with holiday specials throughout the year.

Can you tell us about a time you’ve had to pivot?
I’m a firm believer in not staying stagnant in life. I had so much to learn from all my years working for others in the dessert and customer service industry. But there came a time when I felt maxed out, both financially and with my learning. That was the point in my life I knew I craved something more; I aimed to broaden my horizons and capabilities. I took the planned but very frightening step to start a business of my own.

What’s been the most effective strategy for growing your clientele?
Personal professionalism. My partner and I are a big part of our brand and we employ three core principles at all times; show up, do the work, and know people’s names. We are consistent and active members of our community. They know who we are, what we do, and count on Briecakemood™ to deliver amazing, “savory subtly sweet Brie cheesecakes”™. That regularity adds to our growing customer base.
