We were lucky to catch up with Leah DeVon recently and have shared our conversation below.
Leah, looking forward to hearing all of your stories today. We’d love to go back in time and hear the story of how you came up with the name of your brand?
I named my company JaxBoy after my son Jaxon. I chose a company name that will remind me of the love I have for my son, and push me to do the very best I can to make it a successful company. I have an all boy little boy that keeps my husband Kelvin and I very busy. The name for the company is fitting as Jaxon has told me that one day he is going to be famous.

Leah, love having you share your insights with us. Before we ask you more questions, maybe you can take a moment to introduce yourself to our readers who might have missed our earlier conversations?
I knew from a very early age that I wanted to be a part of the entertainment industry. I had a successful run as an Indie recording artist. I released two albums on my record label KAZ Records. I toured overseas and performed for the troops, and also was the face for a fine Jewelry line. I’ve appeared on Good Day Atlanta, various radio and podcast shows, and was also the Host for the Atlanta-based TV show CD Universe.
As an indie artist you have to travel a lot to promote your music. When I felt my cup was full with that aspect of the industry, I
wanted to venture out and do something different. A TV personality in Atlanta suggested trying my hand at television. So I stepped out on faith, with very little knowledge of this industry and started my show Indie Style with Leah DeVon. I wanted to create a show that would celebrate successful independent entrepreneurs in the fields of music, business, and entertainment,
It’s important for entrepreneurs to know that you don’t necessarily have to have a “big machine” behind you to get your brand in front of a large audience. Social media can bring your brand to a global audience or marketplace.
I have been blessed to have a wonderful team to help me on this journey. It’s important to have people around you in your business who you can learn from and mentor you. Indie Style with Leah DeVon is a weekly show that began airing on local public access stations in Atlanta, Chicago, and NYC. Public access is a wonderful platform to work on and get comfortable with being a creative in the TV world.
In 2017, I was blessed to bring on a wonderful Supervising Producer Timikal Bobo. She is a 2X Emmy nominated producer and knows this industry. I have learned so much from her. Other teams members include Todd Barron, Cymande Coburn, and Warren McIntosh. All of my team member have their own businesses as well.
In 2018 I was approached by streaming companies that aired my show on their streaming platforms. Exposure is key for any brand. This past year in 2021, I launched my company JaxBoy Productions LLC and started my own streaming network on ROKU. My show can now be seen streaming on ROKU via the Indie Style with Leah DeVon Network. I am super proud of this accomplishment. I now control my content. Viewers can also see my show streaming on FB Live, YouTube, and Prime Video has also approved for my show to air on their platform.
I am very proud of what my show brings to our viewing audience. Indie Style focuses on interviewing guests as they share their struggles and triumphs, as well as how they made it in their specific industries, and what their future holds. We give these entrepreneurs a platform for their work while inspiring up and coming entrepreneurs with helpful tips and information.
Past guest have included: The Co-Founder of FUBU J Martin Alexander, An Emmy Award Winning Film Director, The #1 Elite, National Sale Director in Mary Kay Cosmetics HISTORY Gloria Mayfield Banks ! Grammy-Nominated & Chart CeCe Peniston and Indie Film Maker/Actor Maurandis Berger whose film GRIMY has been downloaded over 200 million times to name a few.
It’s important to have faith and not let anyone tell you that you can’t accomplish your goals. Our team is excited to partner with potential sponsors who would like to advertise via our show. Our show now has a global reach, and we are thrilled about that.
Having that global reach has allowed me the honor to be a finalist in the Women’s Windtrade Global Awards in 2021 in London. I am really proud of that recognition.
How’d you meet your business partner?
My Supervising Producer Timikal ( Myki) Bobo is my cousin. She is a television veteran. I remember calling her asking her what she thought about my show and if she would. give tips, feedback etc. Myki and I knew of each other, but I did not really see her much growing up. So I was a little nervous when I called her and asked her for advise. I am grateful for the close relationship we now have. I also know that she truly had my best interest at heart. We talk about potential guests for the show. She also is responsible for assisting with the taping and editing of the show in addition to our other team members. We have a very close working relationship.

Can you share a story from your journey that illustrates your resilience?
I know that having my show on the various streaming platforms via other companies was vital in allowing me to get the type of guests that I wanted for my show. I was blown away by the celebrity business entrepreneurs that have graced my show, and of course all of the incredibly successful, talented entrepreneurs that have been guests. It’s important to have an attitude of gratitude.
At the beginning of 2021, I decide to have my show taken off of all of the streaming platforms. I thought it was vital to find a way to start my own streaming network for my show, and to also think of expanding and bringing other content producers onto my streaming platform.
I did my research and was able to find a wonderful developer who worked with my company to help launch my ROKU streaming platform. I am proud of my self for not feeling like I had to reply on another company to do what I could do for myself and what will be the most beneficial for JaxBoy Productions.
