We’re excited to introduce you to the always interesting and insightful Leah Avigdori. We hope you’ll enjoy our conversation with Leah below.
Leah, thanks for taking the time to share your stories with us today What was the most important lesson/experience you had in a job that has helped you in your professional career?
Where I am now compared to where I was before are like night and day. I had stepped out of the industry for several years to raise my two boys. Once I decided to return I felt like I was starting from scratch. My entry back into the esthetics field was at a day spa near my home. Long story short, it was a miserable experience. I was working for a person who was very controlling and distrustful. She made me feel small and I felt like I was constantly walking on egg shells. Then one day I made the decision to focus on being in a state of appreciation. Instead of focusing on all the unfair ways this person was treating me and the unpleasant working environment she was creating, I started to focus on other things. Things like, my sweet clients, the money I made (and it was not much at the time) and would daydream about doing treatments with crystals and holistic skincare. I once asked the owner if I could add a holistic facial to the menu with crystals and such and she didn’t agree. It’s funny looking back how this shift in perspective totally changed my reality. Feeling little sparks of joy or pride in the work I did for the day or the small amount of money I made to contribute to my family, opened up a portal into the workplace of my dreams. Now I do facials with crystals and holistic skincare! I feel fulfilled and happy everyday and make way more money doing it! The lesson I learned here is that one’s focus of thoughts and energy really do create your reality and open you up to the things you desire. Being in a situation where I was very unhappy, justifiably, I could have felt sorry for my self and lingered in that thought pattern. But by shifting my focusing onto more positive aspects, I created an upward momentum that has given me a hugely fulfilling and purposeful work life. Never underestimate the power of thought. It can build you up or it will tear you down. It’s your decision.
Awesome – so before we get into the rest of our questions, can you briefly introduce yourself to our readers.
I call myself a holistic esthetician. I like to work with the bodies own healing mechanisms and respect it’s perfect intelligence. My offerings include anything from gua sha, connective tissue massage, lymphatic drainage, sculptural face lifting massage, buccal massage, microcurrent, face reflexology and sound therapy. I love helping clients heal from from acne. My approach is more of an inside out job than an aggressive outside only approach when it comes to acneic skin. I always bring in a calming energetic component to my work whether it’s doing a small meditation, using crystals or some quiet reiki.
What’s been the most effective strategy for growing your clientele?
Belief in yourself. In the beginning, I was so insecure with myself and compared myself to so many others in my field. Once I started to stay in my lane and start truly believing in myself and my abilities, my clientele grew exponentially. Also to have fun. When I have fun or when I am excited about something I’m sharing on instagram for example, it reaches more people and brings in more clients. And of course giving an amazing service. Word of mouth is where it’s at.
What do you think helped you build your reputation within your market?
I have to say I’ve been given so much support from Skinworship. They have always believed in me and promoted me. So linking up with great business partners or working for a supportive boss will really help give you a boost. But you have to be consistently great in delivering your services and do so in your own unique way. If you are great at what you do, the word will spread. I do also get a lot of clients via instagram because I show the results I’ve attained for people.
