We’re excited to introduce you to the always interesting and insightful Lea Mason. We hope you’ll enjoy our conversation with Lea below.
Alright, Lea thanks for taking the time to share your stories and insights with us today. Are you happier as a business owner? Do you sometimes think about what it would be like to just have a regular job?
I enjoy being a business owner, but I’m not full-time yet :). I work in healthcare operations by day, and I work on building my business and writing books by night. I like that I was able to spend quality time on first completing graduate school and growing my corporate career before I tapped into building my business focused on inspiration in various forms (art, writing, coffee mugs and tumblers, etc.). Now that I’ve reached a good place in my corporate career, I’m able to focus more on building my own business. I enjoy bringing inspiration to others, and providing it in various forms. Art, African fabric, and inspirational phrases bring me so much joy – and I feel so blessed that my business allows me to do that. My goal is to one day become a full-time business owner, but I will continue moving forward in both for the time being.

Awesome – so before we get into the rest of our questions, can you briefly introduce yourself to our readers.
My business started off as me making artwork as gifts for people who were near and dear to my heart, after I had my MBA graduation celebration in 2019. Once I saw their response to my art, I decided to use my time during the pandemic to turn this into a business and establish my first LLC. I used that time to start sourcing my fabric, creating designs, and making art in various sizes for sale. Once I launched my website, I wanted to dive deeper into the “inspirational” component of my business. Starting October 2024, I’ll continue to “lean into” providing inspiration in various forms through posting monthly devotionals/blogs, weekly journal prompts, and scripture Mondays (highlighting a favorite scripture each week). Right now, I focus on creating art in three different sizes: 5.7″ magnet ($20), 12″ x 12″ canvas (starting at $80), and 16″ x 20″ canvas (starting at $175), but I can also provide custom sizes upon request. In 2024, I launched a clothing line that highlights inspirational phrases on t-shirts, hoodies, and mugs, which are also available for sale on my website.

Have you ever had to pivot?
Since I’m not a full-time business owner yet, I first needed to secure a job that could pay for my bills and help me build up my business in the meantime. My top spiritual gift is “Administration,” so I typically apply for roles that are in line with that gift: operations, project management, and program development. The more I got focused on building my personal business, the more I had to be intentional on what type of job I pursued next. I changed corporate jobs last year to make sure I prepared the way for future success with my art business. It has been an interesting journey, but I am so grateful for the people I’ve met along the way and the ones who have been walking with me and continuing to encourage me on my journey to future success.

Is there mission driving your creative journey?
If I could write one sentence to sum up my entire life, it would be this: “Change the world by inspiring a child.” My entire purpose is to live a life that pleases God and inspires others to give Him a try. I believe that you become what you constantly see, so I wanted to use my art and clothing line to bring inspiration to others. In high school, I used to write scriptures on my notebooks that were relevant to that subject so I could stay encouraged in the classes I was taking. I believe I have been sowing seeds of inspiration since childhood and I feel so honored that now I’m able to make personalized products so others can carry inspiration with them wherever they go. It warms my heart to see a client’s face light up when we have our free video consultation on the piece(s) they would like to have made for themselves or their loved ones. Seeing others get inspired by products that I make brings me so much joy!
