We recently connected with Lea Caprice and have shared our conversation below.
Lea, looking forward to hearing all of your stories today. Have you signed with an agent or manager? Why or why not?
It’s so important to have the proper agency representation. Having a professional agent on your side, expands your reach and exposure to many more clients and opportunities for work. When starting out as a new model, I always recommend submitting yourself and attending as many agency open calls as possible to find out which agency may be the best fit. Also, research the agencies to see their current roster of models, clients, work, etc.

Awesome – so before we get into the rest of our questions, can you briefly introduce yourself to our readers.
I’m from New York City, so I basically grew up living and breathing fashion, I was always mesmerized by the billboards and advertisements I saw while taking the subway and walking to school, I had big dreams of working in fashion and especially becoming a model. One of my first artwork awards was for a painting I painted of my future self on a runway. At 14, I entered a local modeling contest and won. I started booking a lot of smaller gigs and testing with a lot of photographers to build my portfolio. I visited many agencies. There were a lot of ‘No’s” and a few “Maybe’s”. I never wanted to give up on myself so I worked hard to learn the craft as well as the industry. One of the most important thing I learned is no matter how many “No’s: you receive, there will always be a “Yes”. Take that “Yes” and do your best job, it will lead to more “Yes’s”. To have a successful career in modeling, it’s important to show up on time, have a pleasant and positive attitude, take direction well, and always be professional!

For you, what’s the most rewarding aspect of being a creative?
The most rewarding part of my job is seeing the final product out there exposed in the real world! I’ll always remember the feeling I had when I saw myself on a billboard in broad daylight for the first time! It was a surreal and emotional moment for me. No one knows the journey I’ve been on just to get to this place in my career.

Do you think there is something that non-creatives might struggle to understand about your journey as a creative? Maybe you can shed some light?
I think most people outside our industry don’t understand this lifestyle. Jobs can be inconsistent, unpredictable, uncertain and last minute. You have to have a strong ability to adapt to any situation, work well under pressure and thrive in chaos.
