Alright – so today we’ve got the honor of introducing you to LE BohemianMuse. We think you’ll enjoy our conversation, we’ve shared it below.
Hi LE, thanks for joining us today. The first dollar you earn is always exciting – it’s like the start of a new chapter and so we’d love to hear about the first time you sold or generated revenue from your creative work?
My journey as an artist took its first official step when I organized my very first solo exhibition in a friend’s house, long before I began exhibiting in galleries and art shows. This informal gathering was a delightful blend of my abstract paintings and photography. Reflecting on this early opportunity fills me with fond memories of the dedication and effort I poured into it.
I wore many hats in this endeavor, from creating postcards and calendar invites to securing the perfect venue and personally inviting guests. Collaborating with my friend to provide refreshments, and even delivering my first artist talk, added a unique flavor to the event. The support I received from friends and family was heartwarming, and I cherished every moment of discussing my creative process and the meaning behind each piece.
During the exhibition, a few friends purchased some of my 5×7 photographs, each priced at $15.00. While I was undoubtedly grateful for their purchases, it was the sense of pride in both my identity as an artist and my budding entrepreneurial spirit that truly stood out.
This experience marked the beginning of a fulfilling journey where my passion and dedication to art were affirmed, setting the stage for the creative adventures that lay ahead.
Awesome – so before we get into the rest of our questions, can you briefly introduce yourself to our readers.
Background: My journey into the realm of storytelling led me to explore the creation of new worlds through various artistic mediums. I constantly sought innovative ways to weave narratives into alternative forms of expression, including writing, theater, and abstract painting. During my educational journey at Loyola Marymount University (LMU), I delved deeper into the multifaceted world of art. I pursued majors in both Theater and Studio Art, expanding my horizons and honing my skills in these creative disciplines.
Creative Works:
Fast forward to today, I’ve had the privilege of showcasing my art at renowned art shows such as Superfine Art Fair, Vanitas Contemporary Gallery, Artspace Warehouse Gallery, Voss Gallery, and more, spanning across various cities in the United States. Additionally, my passion for mural art has led to collaborations with incredible street artists, including the talented Few and Far Women, as part of my dynamic duo, Bella Donna Artiste.
One of the most significant milestones on my artistic journey was my solo exhibition in August 2020, titled “Renegade Renaissance.” This exhibition featured a compelling body of work that I titled “Rebel.” It was an experimental series where I intentionally went against my creative instincts, challenging myself in new and exciting ways. This series marked a departure from my usual creative process and took two years to complete, which is a typical timeline for when I am developing a new series.
Proud Achievements:
Over the last four years, I’ve embarked on an exciting journey that allowed me to expand my artistic horizons and proudly embrace the title of ‘muralist’ within my repertoire. As an artist, I’ve always believed in pushing the boundaries of my creative expression and daring to dream beyond the limits I’ve set for myself. I’ve envisioned my abstract works taking on larger-than-life dimensions, akin to the inspiring visions of artists like Marc Bradford and Diego Rivera.
In recent years, I turned this dream into reality. Not only did I create large-scale abstract murals, but I also used my art as a force for positive change within my community. One notable project that stands out is our involvement in the Golden Mile Project. Alongside my mural duo, Bella Donna Artiste, and a group of exceptionally talented Bay Area Muralists, we collaborated with Illuminate SF, Parks and Recreation, and Paint the Void to transform a space in Golden Gate Park into a magnificent public art haven.
This project wasn’t just about painting street murals; it was about creating a vibrant and welcoming space for local residents and visitors alike to revel in. It exemplified the power of art to transcend boundaries and bring communities together. I’m proud to have been a part of this initiative, and it reaffirms my belief that art has the ability to enrich lives and foster connections that extend far beyond its physical boundaries.
In your view, what can society to do to best support artists, creatives and a thriving creative ecosystem?
The importance of supporting artists/creatives is essential. It would be great to eradicate the stereotype of “starving artists,” to “thriving artists.” Aside from providing affordable live/work housing and healthcare here are some ideas I believe can truly nurture a creative ecosystem:
Invest in Arts Education: Make arts education accessible to all, inspiring the next generation of creatives.
Foster Creative Spaces: Create affordable, collaborative spaces where artists can work and share ideas.
Supportive Policies: Advocate for policies that protect artists’ rights, fair compensation, and healthcare.
Public Art Initiatives: Beautify public spaces with art installations and murals, bringing culture to the streets.
Grants and Funding: Provide grants, funding, and residencies to help artists develop their craft.
Digital Platforms: Utilize digital platforms for exposure and marketing, connecting artists with wider audiences.
Art Appreciation Events: Host art festivals, exhibitions, and cultural events to celebrate creativity.
Collective Collaboration: Encourage collaboration between artists and other industries, fostering innovation.
By nurturing creativity at its roots and providing a supportive environment, we can ensure artists and creatives flourish, enriching our society with their unique perspectives and visions.
What do you find most rewarding about being a creative?
Art, in its myriad forms, holds an unparalleled significance in my life. It’s not just a creative outlet; it’s a tapestry that weaves together the diverse threads of our existence. We, as humans, are walking examples of art, showcasing our beauty and imperfections alike. Art is a sanctuary, a refuge we turn to in moments of pain, and a jubilant celebration of our greatest triumphs. It draws inspiration from the symphony of life, encompassing music, poetry, paintings, and more.
Abstract art, in particular, speaks to my soul. Its enigmatic nature mirrors the complexity of humanity and our emotions. Just as one cannot simply define a person without delving into their story, abstract art defies easy interpretation. It demands presence, urging us to explore our feelings rather than seeking concrete explanations.
As an artist, my purpose extends beyond mere creation. It’s about using my platform to enrich our communities and shape the generations to come. Creativity, I believe, is a tool to mold a better world. My art isn’t just about aesthetics; it’s about impact. Did it resonate with you? Did it mark a moment in your life or offer solace in times of need? These questions drive me. While financial success is important, my primary focus remains on the who, what, and why of my work. I hold a deep conviction that art can catalyze our evolution as individuals and as a society. Better humans lead to a better environment, setting in motion a domino effect that can transform our world into a more beautiful place.”
