Alright – so today we’ve got the honor of introducing you to LAYNA. We think you’ll enjoy our conversation, we’ve shared it below.
Alright, LAYNA thanks for taking the time to share your stories and insights with us today. When did you first know you wanted to pursue a creative/artistic path professionally?
Recently, 2022 to be more specific. I moved to Nashville in 2021 to go to graduate school with hopes of someday being a publisher. In Ohio I had played some shows, performed in local competitions, but I never thought it would be my full time job. I loved songwriting and was open to mainly doing songwriting on the side, but everything changed when I got here. My whole view or artistry and performing altered and I fell in love with it. Now there is nothing else I could see myself doing for the rest of my life.

As always, we appreciate you sharing your insights and we’ve got a few more questions for you, but before we get to all of that can you take a minute to introduce yourself and give our readers some of your back background and context?
well, My name is LAYNA. Im a singer/songwriter, artist from NorthEast Ohio. I moved to Nashville in 2021 and have been working hard, seeking to earn my spot in the industry. I’ve played at places such as the Bluebird Cafe, Pilgrimage Fest, The Ryman Auditorium, and Ascend Amphitheater. I grew up in a small(ish) town. A place where everyone knows each other and the highway deadends in. I taught myself guitar starting at the age of 11, wrote my first song at 12 and played with my church worship team until I was 22 years old. Music has always been a large portion of my life for as long as I can remember. It has been a therapeutic way for me to process and deal with strong emotions or life situations. Which is what I hope to be to others, allow them the space to be vulnerable and honest about what they are going through.

What’s the most rewarding aspect of being a creative in your experience?
The most rewarding aspect to me is the emotion it brings to the listeners. It is very easy to relate to a song or a person but it is hard to bring emotion to it. You as an artist have the power to create a space that welcomes emotion and creates space to move people in the way they need to be moved.
How did you build your audience on social media?
Social media is a hard topic because you have to be willing to put yourself out there. Whether that is on tiktok, instagram reels, youtube shorts; or what I like to do, networking. I love to go out and listen to music and with every show, there are so many people that you can meet.
