We recently connected with Layla Mayeline and have shared our conversation below.
Layla , thanks for taking the time to share your stories with us today We’d love to hear the backstory behind a risk you’ve taken – whether big or small, walk us through what it was like and how it ultimately turned out.
Taking the leap to leave a stable job in retail and pursuing something uncertain was one of the most significant risks I’ve ever taken. For years, I had a secure 9-to-5 job working at a retail store. It was comfortable, familiar, and provided me with a steady income. But deep down, I knew I wanted more. I had a growing passion for graphic design and content creation, and I realized that if I didn’t take the plunge, I might never have the chance to build something of my own.
The decision wasn’t easy. I was giving up financial security and stepping into the unknown. But I knew that if I wanted to truly commit to my dream, I had to take a step back and invest in my education. So, I enrolled in school to hone my skills and gain the knowledge I needed to launch my own business.
It was a challenging journey. Going back to school meant living on a tight budget, balancing coursework with personal life, and dealing with the uncertainty of whether my efforts would pay off. There were days when I questioned whether I had made the right choice, especially when I looked around me and it seemed everyone was flying past me.
However, this risk turned out to be one of the best decisions I’ve ever made. The skills I gained in school allowed me to build my business, combining my passions for design and faith into a platform that helps others. Looking back, the fear of the unknown was dwarfed by the satisfaction of seeing my vision come to life.
Taking this risk taught me the importance of trusting myself and my instincts. It reminded me that sometimes the greatest rewards come from stepping out of our comfort zones and embracing the uncertainty of change. In the end, I learned that it’s not just about the destination but the journey and the courage it takes to pursue what truly matters to you.

As always, we appreciate you sharing your insights and we’ve got a few more questions for you, but before we get to all of that can you take a minute to introduce yourself and give our readers some of your back background and context?
For those who may not know me yet, Hi my name is Layla Mayeline and I’m a Graphic Designer, creator, and small business owner with a deep passion for faith, beauty, and wellness. My journey into this industry was both unexpected and natural. Initially, I didn’t set out to become a graphic designer—it felt more like graphic design found me. What started as a creative outlet quickly turned into a calling, and I knew I had to master it if I wanted to build a business that was truly my own.
Quitting my stable 9-to-5 retail job was a pivotal moment. I went back to school to sharpen my skills. This decision was a leap of faith, but it paid off. It was a leap of faith that led me back to school to refine my skills and gain the knowledge I needed to pursue this path fully. That decision was one of the best I’ve ever made, and it allowed me to turn my passion into something real and tangible.
Now, I focus on creating work that resonates with others, especially college students and young professionals who are navigating the challenges of balancing school, work, and life. I’m proud of the community that has grown around my work—a group of like-minded individuals who are passionate about building lives that are not only successful but also balanced and fulfilling.
What sets my journey apart is the holistic approach I take. It’s not just about the visual aspects of design; it’s about creating something that speaks to the soul and helps others find balance in their own lives. My work is deeply influenced by my beliefs and values, and I strive to incorporate elements of faith and wellness into everything I do.
One of the things I’m most proud of is seeing how my work has impacted others, helping them to pursue their own passions and goals. It’s incredibly rewarding to know that what I create can uplift and inspire. My brand is a reflection of my personal journey, and it’s a privilege to share that with others.

We often hear about learning lessons – but just as important is unlearning lessons. Have you ever had to unlearn a lesson?
One of the most important lessons I had to unlearn was the difference between believing in myself and truly believing myself. For a long time, I had confidence in my abilities, but when it came down to making decisions or taking risks, I often second-guessed myself. It was like I trusted my potential but didn’t fully trust my instincts.
This struggle became especially clear when I was contemplating the decision to leave my stable retail job and go back to school. I believed in my ability to succeed, but I kept going back and forth, unsure if I was making the right choice. I knew I had the skills and passion to build something great, but trusting that I was making the right decisions along the way was a whole different challenge.
The turning point came when I realized that in order to truly unleash my greatness, I needed to commit to trusting myself fully. It wasn’t enough to just believe that I could do it—I had to trust that the steps I was taking were leading me in the right direction, even if the path wasn’t always clear.
This process wasn’t easy. There were moments of doubt and hesitation, but each time I chose to trust myself, it became a little easier. Over time, I learned that believing in yourself is the first step, but believing yourself—trusting your decisions and instincts—is what really allows you to move forward with confidence.
Looking back, unlearning this hesitation and fully committing to trusting myself was a key part of my journey. It allowed me to embrace the challenges and uncertainties, knowing that I was capable of navigating them. It’s a lesson that has not only shaped my career but also the way I approach life.

What do you think is the goal or mission that drives your creative journey?
The core of my creative journey is driven by a deep desire to curate a beautiful relationship with God. For me, it’s not just about creating visually appealing designs or impactful content—it’s about integrating my faith into every aspect of my work and life. I want to show people that you can include God in everything you do, whether it’s pursuing your passions, building a business, or navigating the everyday challenges of life.
This mission is about more than just faith; it’s about demonstrating that God is always there, cheering you on and supporting you every step of the way. My work is a reflection of this belief, and I strive to create content that not only inspires but also reminds people that they are never alone in their journey. By including God in our pursuits, we open ourselves up to a source of strength and guidance that can make all the difference.
Ultimately, my goal is to help others see that a relationship with God isn’t confined to Sunday mornings or quiet moments of prayer—it can be woven into the fabric of everything we do. Through my creative journey, I hope to inspire others to embrace this connection and experience the profound support and encouragement that comes from knowing God is with them, always.
