Alright – so today we’ve got the honor of introducing you to Layla Bombshell. We think you’ll enjoy our conversation, we’ve shared it below.
Alright, Layla thanks for taking the time to share your stories and insights with us today. Are you happier as a business owner? Do you sometimes think about what it would be like to just have a regular job?
I’ve had a range of professional experiences, from working as a scientist with a structured schedule to nursing, where the long, grueling shifts are anything but traditional. Now, as a business owner while still working as a nurse, I’m finding a unique balance, though it’s the busiest I’ve ever been. Being a business owner has made me a better nurse—teaching me patience and social skills—while nursing has taught me how to connect with people and handle challenging situations, which helps in running my business.
Although managing both roles is demanding and stressful, I value the creative freedom and control my business provides. I can shape my own schedule and prioritize family time, which is something I never had in my previous jobs. I wouldn’t say I’m necessarily ‘happier,’ but I feel more fulfilled because of the creativity and ownership I have now. Ultimately, it’s the blend of these experiences that keeps me learning, growing, and moving forward.

Great, appreciate you sharing that with us. Before we ask you to share more of your insights, can you take a moment to introduce yourself and how you got to where you are today to our readers.
KC Bombshell Designs is a little bit of everything! I’m a self-taught wood artist, and I specialize in creating unique, custom woodworking pieces and collections. My work includes flash tattoo art, memorial pieces, nerdy designs inspired by video games and anime, as well as fantasy and dark art. I also make custom logo signs. In addition to custom projects, where I help clients design and visualize their ideas through mock-ups, I create ready-made pieces that I sell on my website. What’s great about my business is that I’m not limited to working locally—I can ship my designs anywhere.
I also design apparel and glassware using some of the same artwork and styles I create for my woodworking, which provides an accessible way for people to support my business without investing in a custom woodworking piece. This side of my business has become another creative outlet for me, almost like keeping a diary, but through art that people connect with and enjoy.
What sets me apart is my ability to bring ideas to life, whether I’m creating something entirely from scratch or working from an existing design. I take pride in every detail—from shaping and painting the wood to carefully choosing the right backer and frame to fit the artwork. I’m proud of my versatility and problem-solving skills, and I love helping clients bring their visions to life, no matter how challenging the project may be.
Ultimately, I want people to know how dedicated I am to their ideas and stories. Whether it’s a custom design or something from my collection, every piece I create is personal and meaningful. What I’m most proud of is being completely self-taught and having the creativity and determination to turn any vision into a reality.

We’d love to hear the story of how you built up your social media audience?
Building a social media presence was challenging for me, especially since I started with no personal social media and am naturally a private person. My advice for anyone starting out is to stay true to yourself. You don’t have to share everything about your life—just be genuine and authentic. Show up, let people see that you’re real, and connect with them through your personality, interests, and values.
It’s also important not to get caught up in the numbers or engagement metrics. Don’t consume too much content or compare yourself to others—it’s easy to lose sight of your purpose. Instead, use social media as a tool to grow, connect with your audience, and support your community. It’s not about winning a popularity contest; it’s about finding your people and staying consistent in how you show up for them.
Lastly, support others who support you and be open to forming genuine connections. As someone who’s introverted and often prefers to work alone, I didn’t realize how valuable these relationships could be. Some of the friendships I’ve made through this process have been incredible and have become one of the best parts of my journey, especially during those early stages when my business was still a financial challenge.

Can you share a story from your journey that illustrates your resilience?
A story that really illustrates my resilience is how I navigated the challenges of starting and growing my business, especially early on. When I began, I didn’t know much about content creation, and building my audience was incredibly difficult. I juggled my business alongside my job in nursing, spending almost two years working nonstop to learn, create, and grow. It was hard not to compare myself to people who seemed to go viral effortlessly and start making money right away.
For me, resilience meant pushing through the self-doubt, anxiety, and fear of judgment that can come with putting yourself out there. A lot of those barriers were in my own head, and I had to learn to overcome them. I also realized that resilience isn’t just about pushing through—it’s about knowing when to take a step back, whether that’s giving myself more time for orders, stepping away from social media, or reconnecting with hobbies and family.
One piece of advice that’s stuck with me came from a friend I met through the community. She shared that when she first started her business, it felt like she was just talking to herself. But she kept showing up, stayed consistent, and eventually achieved incredible success. That perspective has been so inspiring to me.
This journey has been filled with challenges—financial and emotional—but it’s also been a lesson in perseverance. Resilience, for me, is about showing up even when it feels like no one is listening and continuing to move forward, step by step.
