Alright – so today we’ve got the honor of introducing you to Layken Urie . We think you’ll enjoy our conversation, we’ve shared it below.
Alright, Layken thanks for taking the time to share your stories and insights with us today. When did you first know you wanted to pursue a creative/artistic path professionally?
From a very young age! I’m incredibly thankful to have a family who noticed my love of music as a child, and began performing when I was four. (photo attached) From that moment on, music was just apart of who I was. I’m so so lucky to be able to pursue a professional career in something that means so much to me!
Great, appreciate you sharing that with us. Before we ask you to share more of your insights, can you take a moment to introduce yourself and how you got to where you are today to our readers.
I am a country music singer and songwriter from Oklahoma City, who now lives in Nashville Tennessee! I began singing at the age of four, and never looked back. I absolutely love writing music, and performing for any audience big or small. My love of country music started with artists like Patsy Cline, Dolly Parton, and Shania Twain, and I think a lot of the music I write really reflects that. I love anything with sequins and rhinestones, the color pink, cowboys hats, boots, and bolo ties. I’m so fortunate to have the opportunity to play and perform every single week, and hope to catch you all at a show!
What’s the most rewarding aspect of being a creative in your experience?
Having the ability to reach and connect with people. I love playing a show and being able to feel joy in a room. It means a lot to get to create a space where people can really let go, and have a good time. I think the best example I can give is that moment at a concert where the artist stops singing and the audience takes over. It’s magical, and incredibly rewarding.
How can we best help foster a strong, supportive environment for artists and creatives?
It’s the little things that make such a big difference! For musicians like me, it means the world to see people who come out to my shows follow me on social media, stream my music, and add my songs to their playlists. I also love it when people come out and tag me in their photos and videos, it really means a lot!
