We caught up with the brilliant and insightful Laycie Moore a few weeks ago and have shared our conversation below.
Laycie , appreciate you joining us today. To kick things off, we’d love to hear about things you or your brand do that diverge from the industry standard.
In the wedding industry- no matter your market or price range, Ive began to realize how hush hush the industry is in terms of pricing for services, package offerings etc. Which makes it difficult as a business owner to know what should be industry standard, and even more challenging for clients to compare apples to apples when looking for their vendors.
As always, we appreciate you sharing your insights and we’ve got a few more questions for you, but before we get to all of that can you take a minute to introduce yourself and give our readers some of your back background and context?
I’m Laycie, a wife and mother of two boys. I own LM Events and serve as the COO of HR Ranch. My business journey began in college as a hobby, stemming from my involvement in my sorority’s planning committee and passion for organizing events. This hobby evolved into coordinating weddings. For seven years post-college, I balanced a career in the medical field with my wedding planning endeavors. In 2022, I made the decision to dedicate myself entirely to wedding and event planning.
At LM Events, we specialize in crafting bespoke designs for upscale and destination weddings. We take pride in being partners to our couples, guiding them through the wedding planning process so they can focus on their engagement season, while we bring their wedding vision to life.
Reflecting on the past nine years, I’m humbled by the trust placed in me to orchestrate countless unforgettable moments for many couples. I’m also proud of the company’s growth from its beginnings to where we stand today, and the aspirations we hold for the future. I believe in empowering women to show that it’s possible to be both a dedicated mother and a successful business owner.
Can you talk to us about how your side-hustle turned into something more.
I began organizing various events during my college years, such as Greek life events, parent weekends, and homecoming parades. The journey started when a fellow sorority member got engaged, sparking my interest as a wedding planner. Initially, I did not actively market my services or operate as a business. In 2018, I created an Instagram account for my small business but struggled to dedicate time to marketing due to my full-time job. By 2022, faced with a challenging decision, I realized I couldn’t effectively juggle both my growing business and my responsibilities at the doctor’s office. After the birth of my second son in 2022, I briefly returned to work before ultimately leaving to focus on developing my small business full-time.
