We were lucky to catch up with Lawrence Omodele recently and have shared our conversation below.
Lawrence , thanks for taking the time to share your stories with us today What do you think matters most in terms of achieving success?
Success is the act of having achieved and completed a goal or aim. Being successful involves achieving desired visions and goals. To me, success demands a great deal of self-discipline, hard work, never giving up, and learning from one’s failures. Discipline is important in success because it allows you to stay focused on your goals, provides you the courage to persevere with difficult activities, and allows you to overcome barriers and discomfort as you push yourself to new heights. It takes a lot of effort to push yourself to new heights. You must get up every day and give it your all, even when it appears impossible. That’s when the phrase “never give up” comes into play. You should never let up, no matter how difficult the task becomes or appears to be. And always remember to learn from your failures. Making the same mistake twice can set you back on your way to success. After you’ve made your first mistake, learn from it and bury it.
Awesome – so before we get into the rest of our questions, can you briefly introduce yourself to our readers.
I had a black 2002 Chrysler Sebring convertible that I washed practically every week when I was 17 years old, and everytime I drove it someplace, I’d get remarks on how great it looked or how the paint was still gleaming, despite the fact that the car was 18 years old. On July 14, 2020, it was a hot summer day. I decided to wash my car for the weekend. I took pictures after I finished washing it and spent the rest of the day staring at them. Later that day, it was almost 9 p.m., and I was still staring at the photos. At this time, I was deep in thought, telling myself how great of a job I did and how pleasant it felt to have other people look at my car and appreciate my work. With nothing else to think about, I decided to start a carwash. I set up an Instagram page in seconds. My father owns a mechanic business, and he thankfully offered to let me utilize the side of his shop for my carwash. To get to where I am now, I had to have a great deal of patience, time management, and discipline. I’m proud of all of my accomplishments, but most of all, I’m proud of myself. I was able to establish a business at an early age and keep it going. I want people to know that Ldawg’s Carwash is more than simply a carwash; it’s a place where you’ll leave with a big smile on your face and a new friend.
How did you build your audience on social media?
I grew my Instagram audience by using Instagram reels and trending audio. I was recoding every detail I did as well as the vehicles I washed. Then I’ll combine the videos and add a trending sound to it. I had 1,000 followers when the summer of 2022 began, but as my videos went viral, I was able to end the summer with over 40,000 followers. Throughout the year, I continued to post videos. I’ll combine old video clips, blend them with fresh ones, and add a trending sound. I finish the year with over 68,000 followers. Stay consistent is the advise I would provide to individuals who are just starting to create their social media presence. Some days/nights you may not want to make a video to post, but discipline yourself enough to be consistent. It may appear impossible at first, but if you stay consistent, you will notice that things begin to change. The key words to remember are consistency and discipline.
Any fun sales or marketing stories?
When I first started my business, I tried several marketing strategies. I stood in front of the gas station near my dad’s mechanic shop, handing out business cards to strangers. I even went to various gas stations and left my business cards on the counter. I also went to Walmart and placed my business cards on customers’ cars. That will take roughly 20-30 minutes. No matter where I went, I always made an effort of leaving my business cards on people’s cars.
