We recently connected with Lawrence D. and have shared our conversation below.
Hi Lawrence , thanks for joining us today. We’d love to hear about when you first realized that you wanted to pursue a creative path professionally.
I knew that I wanted to pursue music when I was a little boy singing in the car with my father. He was the first person to teach me music and the very first to believe in my abilities as a musician. Of course everything was solidified when I got my first solo in church. The applause that I from the congregation was electrifying. No other feeling like when you bring light with your gift to other people.
Lawrence , love having you share your insights with us. Before we ask you more questions, maybe you can take a moment to introduce yourself to our readers who might have missed our earlier conversations?
Well I am originally from Nashville, Tn but I am based out of Atlanta, Ga. I began learning and practicing music at a very young age. It really began for me singing in church and doing musical theatre shows as a child as well. Then that turned into me being apart of the Nashville Opera for four to five years, background sessions for major artist/ singer-songwriters, musical theater shows, vocal arranging, songwriting sessions as well as my own artistry. So far I have released 3 singles as well as co-written for other artist. I am now on track to release my first debut album. I cant wait for everyone to hear it.
Im very disciplined and concentrated in what I do and how I do it. I love the fact that I wake up and the first thing I want to do is sing, write songs and connect with the people who listen and relate. it really does being joy and happiness to my life when I get to do what I love.
Is there mission driving your creative journey?
My main goal is truly master my music career by any means necessary. I want my music heard all around the world for people to enjoy. Once I’ve done that I then want to reach to all forms of entertainment. Acting, movies, musical theater, producing etc….. Ive always had the urge to study and master certain crafts first then execute, but nothing drives more than my love for music.
What do you find most rewarding about being a creative?
The most rewarding thing of me being an independent artist is that I have complete creative control over what I do and how I do it. I can release what I want to release and show how much I want to show of myself. I decide how my future and how my music should be heard and shown. I go at my own pace and my own race and Im happy about that. Im entirely in my own lane and nobody can knock me out of it.
