We caught up with the brilliant and insightful Lavonte Bell a few weeks ago and have shared our conversation below.
LaVonte, thanks for joining us, excited to have you contributing your stories and insights. When did you first know you wanted to pursue a creative/artistic path professionally?
Honestly, I can say it started around when I was 7 years old. Fell in love with Michael Jackson’s music and wanted to be just like him. The dance moves, the stage presence, but overall the way he was able to capture the hearts of the world, I always wanted to give off that same feeling and from then on I knew entertainment life is where I needed to be. Just who would have thought it would turn into:
– Running My Own Dance Team
– Co Founder Of A Network
– Going On Tour Music Wise
And so much more.

Awesome – so before we get into the rest of our questions, can you briefly introduce yourself to our readers.
I would say I was always apart of the industry as a creator, but didn’t think it would expand the way it has for me. Went from being a full time dancer, transitioned into an hip hop artist able to go on a few tours and being able to mix in myself dancing as well, then soon after getting into podcasting, realizing that I can be the whole package or as I like to say a full on entertainer to the masses that enjoy what I bring to the table. Crazy enough I still remember like it was yesterday. Just myself and my best friend Kev having that love for sports which turned into and I quote “you talk about the New York Knicks so much you might has well create a show around that”. After a few days of talking about it, it ends up happening. Learning day by day the full break downs and etc is what drew me into what I’m trying to accomplish at the end of everything. So many talents just never thought at first being a content creator and network founder it would lead to a team behind all the steps of the way and then some. Just felt great to know everything has and will be for the best.

What can society do to ensure an environment that’s helpful to artists and creatives?
Being present in the moment while cherishing what is right in front of you. In most cases us content creators end up getting over looked in most cases, some having to go to extremes to get noticed. But this is where I say as the artist, dancer, etc. Our best bet is to stay humble and ready for whatever obstacles come fourth. As far as I can tell. Best thing anyone can do is keep an open mind, trust your eyes and not looking for a way around the long game and that’s what I call a true friend that not only do they support but understand fully it’s always going to have to be a team leaving.

We often hear about learning lessons – but just as important is unlearning lessons. Have you ever had to unlearn a lesson?
I had to learn the difference between what’s meant to be and what’s being forced.
