We recently connected with Lavender Moon and have shared our conversation below.
Lavender, thanks for taking the time to share your stories with us today Naming anything – including a business – is so hard. Right? What’s the story behind how you came up with the name of your brand?
This story actually starts a while ago. I was exploring my spirituality and different religions. One religion I explored was Wicca. One of the topics that we discussed was a magickal name. (In Wicca, magick is spelled with a “k” at the end.) So one day I was doing the dishes and a name that truly resonated with me “popped” into my head: “Lavender Moonbeam”. Which was perfect, because I love the scent of lavender and purple is my favorite color. I also have always had an affinity for the moon. I even use the moon cycles in my manifestation practices. I have, since, realized that being spiritual, not religious, resonates best with my beliefs.
My first endeavor was to start a YouTube channel and post tarot reading videos. This was just intended to be a hobby. I didn’t really think I was naming a business. I wanted a unique YouTube channel name. Then I thought back to my magickal name. But “Lavender Moonbeam” didn’t roll of the tongue very easily. Once again the thought “popped” into my head: “Lavender Moon Tarot” and so that is the name of my YouTube channel. Last year, when I got the nudge from spirit to start my business, I wanted to mirror my YouTube channel since tarot readings are what I do. But I didn’t want to limit myself to tarot readings as I am developing other skills as well. So I thought I would name my business simply “Lavender Moon”. However when I applied for an LLC (Limited Liability Company), “Lavender Moon” was taken in the state of Arizona. So I thought some more on it and came up with “Lavender Moon Psychic”. It doesn’t limit me to one type or another psychic modality and it can grow as I do without needing to change the name.
Lavender, before we move on to more of these sorts of questions, can you take some time to bring our readers up to speed on you and what you do?
Like most who claim to be psychic, I most likely had these gifts since I was a child. However, I did not see or talk to ghosts, well that I know of. I did, however, speak difficult truths. As an adult, I can surmise that most would have considered what I said as judgemental. My mother always accused me of having a bad attitude and I never understood why. At heart, I am very compassionate, caring and an empath. I don’t relish in hurting anyone. Which is one of the reasons why I became a nurse in my first career. My older brother suffered brain damage at birth and lived with Cerebral Palsy. By eleven years old, I was one of his main caregivers. I loved him dearly and he taught me the true meaning of unconditional love. I thought if I could help another baby avoid the suffering that my brother experienced, that would be my mission. So I went to college right after high school and obtained a Bachelor’s degree in Nursing. I got a job in a Newborn ICU and loved caring for babies! After eleven years of working 12 hour night shifts, I was burned out. I went back to school and obtained a Master’s Degree in Healthcare Informatics. This degree fulfilled another love of mine: computers and technology. In this program, I networked and got a job in a Project Management Office of another hospital. This time I was able to work during the day!
Throughout my career journey, I lost a myriad of loved ones: my brother, my dad and stepdad, aunts, uncles, and my mom. After losing my mom, my sister and I sought the services of a medium. This experience brought me so much comfort knowing that loved ones are still around and willing to communicate. I had the desire to, then, give this comfort to others. For quite a few years, I have been fascinated with the paranormal and psychic abilities. I never in a million years though I had any gifts.
One October, I took a fun class at the community college. It was about everything paranormal. I was in heaven! During one session, we engaged in a psychometry exercise. Psychometry is holding objects in your hands and obtaining information about the owners through the energy left on the objects. The teacher passed around several objects and pictures. The first picture I saw showed a woman in a sixties-style business suit, wearing a pill case had and cat eye glasses. My impression from this picture was that she was a nurse. The next picture I observed showed a man in a white button up dress shirt and tie. He was playing an acoustic guitar. My impression from this picture was that he was a doctor. When the teacher asked for our impressions, I was patient, mostly because I do not like going first. I raised my hand and when called upon, I revealed the information I received. She confirmed that both people in the pictures did in fact work in the medical field and I was correct in picking up that the woman was a nurse and the man was a doctor. I was so excited to learn that I could actually have psychic gifts!
I continued to work as a nurse in different capacities, however that profession began to resonate less and less with me. In the meantime, I continued to nurture my newfound passion. I took a tarot reading class, spirit communication classes, past life classes, I became certified as a Reiki Master-Teacher and practiced every chance I got. After a twenty year career in nursing, I left it altogether. At this time, I decided that administrative work was where I belonged. I got a job as a database and volunteer coordinator for a local non-profit organization. I liked it, but I took a huge pay cut, so when I was encouraged to apply for a promotion, I did. I mostly enjoyed working as an Operations Director, but over time I was becoming very unhappy. I was thinking of looking for something else, but felt the obligation to stick it out a little while longer as there was a huge event coming up that no one else knew how to put on. The new management had other ideas. One month before this event, I was laid off for budget cuts and my job was given to the person I stayed on to help. I know that the Universe co-conspired to get me out of that job. I may never have started my business otherwise!
After my first experience being laid off, I felt like a failure. This was very close to a “rock bottom” for me. I meditated frequently seeking advice on how to move forward. During one of my meditations, my mom came to me. She said, “Start your business!” Now I am a psychic, intuitive tarot reader, who has given suggestions, not advice, on life situations to those who seek it. This work feels like it is what I am here on Earth to do! This is my passion and I want to give comfort and clarity to anyone who is open to seek it. I am currently providing readings at events around Arizona, but I also will give readings over the phone for those who do not reside in or visit Arizona. Since I am no longer a practicing medical professional, nor a licensed counselor, I do have to disclaim that my readings are for entertainment purposes only.
I know that in some areas of the United States, psychics can be a dime a dozen. I am genuine, honest and authentic. I don’t sugar coat anything or try to pull the wool over your eyes. I also don’t claim to know all. I am a good listener and have always had the ability to relay messages that others need to hear. When I shuffle my tarot or oracle cards, I allow the cards to fall out of the deck as they will. This is a sign to me that they are the cards that spirit wants to use in order to convey the messages that are needed to be heard.
I am very proud of my abilities. What I am most proud of is my resilience to bounce back and become stronger than ever! I have come a long way in 8 months and have learned so much! In addition, I am proud of my very supportive family. My husband stuck by me in my lowest of times and provided much needed reassurance. My sister does her best to research and give me advice on my YouTube channel. My sister-in-law always asks for tarot readings when we visit. My children just love me and want to help in any way they can.
Let’s talk about resilience next – do you have a story you can share with us?
I began posting videos regularly on YouTube in last July. I thought all I had to do was to post videos and I would gain tons of subscribers and paying customers. I have learned in the past 7 months that it isn’t exactly that easy. Apparently, there is an algorithm that dictates how often and which viewers see your videos. I am now up to 35 subscribers and over 1,900 views on my channel. Some of my videos have zero views, while others have 3-5 and others have 51. I will admit that I have contemplated quitting my YouTube channel. I do research. I watch others’ videos with advice. I even watch competitors’ videos and I feel like I do what they are doing. Still every week, I make videos. (Mostly because I really enjoy doing tarot readings and discovering the information that I receive.) I have changed my strategy and changed it back. I just keep persevering for the hope that the messages I am relaying will reach those who need to hear them.
How about pivoting – can you share the story of a time you’ve had to pivot?
As I relayed in a previous question, I pivoted in my career big time! I went from a Registered Nurse to a Psychic. But this isn’t the first iteration of my business. In 2021, I tried starting this business. I built a website, an Instagram account, and a blog. I was also working full time and did not have the time to truly nurture it as I do now. At that time, I also didn’t want to focus on tarot readings. I was intent on providing mediumship readings. I have since realized that I am still developing my mediumship skills and I utilize tarot cards as a tool to keep the conversation going. However, it is my goal to incorporate more mediumship into my readings. I truly do want to provide messages and comfort to others from their loved ones in spirit.
I was also petrified to put my self out there. I would have never put my face on YouTube or TikTok back then. I suppose I had a lot of growing to do and I have! I also know that I still have a lot of growing to do, but don’t we all?
