We caught up with the brilliant and insightful Lav Luv a few weeks ago and have shared our conversation below.

Alright, Lav thanks for taking the time to share your stories and insights with us today. Do you wish you had waited to pursue your creative career or do you wish you had started sooner?

I wish I would have started earlier so I could have cause the wave of people being elevated for talent. Not just their social media output

As always, we appreciate you sharing your insights and we’ve got a few more questions for you, but before we get to all of that can you take a minute to introduce yourself and give our readers some of your back background and context?

I got in to comedy after watching an episode of def comedy jam. I thought to myself I’m funnier than him. and decide to do it from that point. I think what makes me different is I can do everything under the umbrella of comedy. I am like the Swiss army knife of comedy. I can do it all. I am proud of the fact I starting doing comedy when actually being funny was a requirement. the entertainment industry is more concerned with social media numbers that may or may not tell the full story of your abilities. I want talent to matter the most again.

Is there something you think non-creatives will struggle to understand about your journey as a creative?

I think it is hard for non creative to understand the amount of work that goes into quality creativity. The number of hours dedicated towards your passion, the number of no’s, the flat out disrespect to your passion. You have to deal with all that and still maintain a smile and be positive.

Can you tell us about a time you’ve had to pivot?

Yes I think all creatives had to pivot in the social media era. It is pretty much mandatory to have a social media presence now. If you haven’t “made it” then it in 100% mandatory. All conversations with gate keeps begin and end with questions about your social media numbers. So I had to go from a person who felt like I didn’t need social media to posting content every day.
