Alright – so today we’ve got the honor of introducing you to Laurkita Sheffield. We think you’ll enjoy our conversation, we’ve shared it below.
Laurkita, thanks for taking the time to share your stories with us today Can you talk to us about serving the underserved.
I want to help bridge the gap between the success rates of small businesses and large corporations by helping small businesses build a solid financial foundation to allow for sustainable growth. Small businesses’ success rates are drastically lower compared to corporations, and often the reasons behind these failures are cashflow problems or lack of proper accounting.
My customers are small business owners because my tiered bookkeeping services are designed with these customers in mind due to the price affordability. EVERY small business should have bookkeeping at the very minimum, so this service is intended to be affordable for those businesses that may not be able to afford the services otherwise.

Laurkita, before we move on to more of these sorts of questions, can you take some time to bring our readers up to speed on you and what you do?
I witnessed many brilliant businesses fall by the wayside due to poor accounting practices. Since I was already an accountant by trade, I decided I wanted to be a part of changing the narrative for small businesses. I was previously preparing tax returns for friends and family as a hobby, so I decided to turn that into a business and offer bookkeeping/accounting services as well.
I opened Sheffield Accounting and Financial Services in October 2020. My business provides bookkeeping, accounting, CFO services, and tax preparation to individuals and small businesses. Every business has unique needs, so I offer various options, from stand-alone services to bundled services.
I am most proud that I remain true to my word and offer affordable bookkeeping services to small businesses. No matter what stage OR how small your business is, I have a bookkeeping plan that suite your needs,
Where do you think you get most of your clients from?
The majority of my initial clients came from Instagram. My Instagram page is more of an educational page vs. full pictures of myself. I opened my business with the preconceived notion that I would be making an impact. The most significant effect I could make is working directly with small business owners, helping them build a solid financial foundation. But even if you are not a client working directly with me, you can still visit my page and learn about small business bookkeeping, accounting, or tax situations.
After I gained my initial clients, worked with them over time, and built good relationships, they began to refer their friends/colleagues to me. Now, my clientele consists of about 50/50 Instagram followers and referrals.

Learning and unlearning are both critical parts of growth – can you share a story of a time when you had to unlearn a lesson?
The biggest lesson I had to unlearn was thinking I had to learn EVERY financial service and offer it to the community. For example, at the beginning stages of my business, I wanted to be a one-stop shop for all financial needs, including being a personal financial coach, credit repair specialist, financial advisor, and more and offering accounting services. It was a terrible idea to think I could take all that on by myself, and I was overwhelmed before I fully started my business.
Now today, I still aim to be a one-stop shop, BUT I plan on hiring experts with different financial specialties to assist current and future clients. This new ideology will provide more value to each client served by my business.
