Alright – so today we’ve got the honor of introducing you to Laurie Moulton. We think you’ll enjoy our conversation, we’ve shared it below.
Laurie, thanks for joining us, excited to have you contributing your stories and insights. What do you think matters most in terms of achieving success?
Creating a successful business takes incredible leadership, planning, strategy and insight regarding the direction of your industry, but success truly only comes when you have the right products, processes and people. As an entrepreneur you should surround yourself with incredible people who compliment your ideas while bringing critical skillsets and thought leadership in areas that you are not as strong. Celebrating your successes, while fully embracing your fears and failures to understand and learn from your mistakes is key to being successful in anything you set out to accomplish.
Great, appreciate you sharing that with us. Before we ask you to share more of your insights, can you take a moment to introduce yourself and how you got to where you are today to our readers.
Grown organically from the collaboration of Laurie Moulton and Chris Fischer, Lolo Interiors has become a design studio representative of effortless beauty and living. Transforming the everyday into a raw, neutral haven, the husband-wife team have created spaces that embody nature in an evocative and elevated “wabi sabi” design style. Lolo Interiors design practices are rooted in over 25 years of developing a profound understanding of construction principles, application of design and fiscal responsibility gained through designing and building their own residential and commercial spaces.
A curator of both fashion and lifestyle, Moulton’s background as founder and curator of House of Lolo—a beautifully edited lifestyle boutique—allows for a seamless sense of self that translates into creating organically elevated spaces.
Lolo Interiors is the underpinning of a family collective of businesses that pays homage to nature with effortless, understated elegance. Luxbox Agency, Lolo Interiors, and House of Lolo is a family-owned collective that transcends through all facets of home, design, and living. The collective was created to evoke emotion, be a catalyst for inspiration, and provide a sense of comfort with their organically elevated collections.
What’s been the most effective strategy for growing your clientele?
We have found that organic growth through the connection and synergies between our family collective of businesses has been the most effective strategy for us. We focus on the creation of emotive experiences for each individual business and for our collective of businesses as a whole, focused on organically connecting people through inspiration, through relationships and through memories. This philosophy is across all client touch points, starting with our story, our strategy, our branding and marketing. Our philosophy of connection is filtering through all processes, including training on client experience methodologies, our practice of sharing resources across our businesses and building incredible teams that love to personally connect with our clients. And finally, we are focused on creating amazing experiences with the thoughtful design of our brick and mortar locations to make everyone feel special, welcomed and at home in our spaces.
When you create connections with your community, you have built something truly special that leaves a legacy. That is our goal, always.
Can you tell us about a time you’ve had to pivot?
I spent 25 years in corporate finance, as a COO and CFO within the high-tech industry so I have been involved in a lot of pivots over the years, both personally in deciding to become a founder of my own businesses and within my corporate career of mergers and acquisitions. I learned to view my businesses within the lens of opportunity to pivot if needed. We still consider ourselves a startup, especially with the dramatic shifts happening in our industries pre-covid to now. We are constantly evaluating the resiliency of our businesses, both within the current market conditions and forecasting the future based upon where our industries may be impacted by economic conditions, technology or regulation and we adjust accordingly. We review our numbers monthly, we review our strategy & staffing quarterly and make corrections as necessary to continue to grow.
