We recently connected with Laurie Greenberg and have shared our conversation below.
Laurie, thanks for taking the time to share your stories with us today Was there a moment in your career that meaningfully altered your trajectory? If so, we’d love to hear the backstory.
I worked as a clinical pharmacist for over 20 years, I loved helping people, assisting medical teams of doctors and residents, improving an individual’s overall health care by ensuring that they received the best possible therapy regimen and understood how to properly take the therapies in order for them to feel better and improve their quality of life.
As I approached my mid-40s, I had an itch to do something different. I still wanted to help and support people, but in a different way. I was ready for a new challenge in my life. My children were growing older, more independent, and I knew in my heart that there was more mountains to climb and opportunities to serve. I spent 2 years soul searching, asking myself deep, thoughtful questions, taking business courses and then considered applying for an my MBA program.
The specific moment of clarity came to me when my amazing, supportive husband of 25 years asked, “What will you do with the MBA degree?” This question hit me hard as I knew it was a valid one? Hmmm? What do I see myself doing after I receive the degree? Yes, I loved the idea of learning more, attending fascinating business courses, and meeting incredibly intelligent and motivated individuals, but my true passion and motivation was to continue to help, support and inspire others to improve their quality of life in some way. I wanted to motivate others to listen to their inner voice, and have the courage to mix things up and take action to change the path of life if they so desired.
Within a few days of research, I found Life Coaching, as a career, and knew this was my next path. It perfectly aligned with my values and my heart. During the past 5 years, I have worked with some of the most incredible individuals to take them on a similar journey of discovering clarity of what their inner voice really wants and inspiring and supporting them to take action towards it.
Awesome – so before we get into the rest of our questions, can you briefly introduce yourself to our readers.
Hi, I am Laurie Greenberg, CPC, ELI-MP, PCC, founder of Infinite Potential Coaching. I created “Infinite Potential Coaching”, because I deeply believe in the power of coaching. I believe that as a ‘coach’, my mission is to help my clients tap into their inner voice to know in their heart what they want and need to do next to feel empowered and satisfied personally and professionally. I am invested in the journey to help my clients to create clarity around what they want, so that they can take active steps towards achieving it.
Just as athletes hire coaches to gain that winning edge at their sport, more and more people are hiring coaches to gain their winning edge at life, as they choose to live it!
With 20 years of experience as a clinical pharmacist behind me, I approach coaching from a critical, science-based slant. Yes, I’m passionate about my clients and the work we do together. And, yes, I’m driven by a desire to support and inspire growth in others. But my results-oriented approach goes beyond talking. I’m not interested in wasting my time or yours!
I specialize in transforming individual and organizational energy in my clients, which I accomplish by pushing them out of their comfort zone to uncover and counteract damaging, negative thoughts.
I cut through each individual’s external noise to hone in on what’s blocking their growth, then we create realistic action plans toward a series of short- and long-terms goals to hold them accountable.
I work with entrepreneurs, leaders, health care professionals, and most recently, college students 1 on 1 in-person and virtually to create clarity in their life so that they can take action. We collaborate to create specific plans for their professional development, and then hold them accountable for their progress.
Additionally, I offer group workshops and master classes on a variety of topics including setting goals, tapping into our inner voice, and creating clarity for the next stages of life.
Business groups also hire me to provide specific leadership workshops to entrepreneurs and management teams to company culture, individual accountability, increased focus and specific leadership skills.
When business owners ask me how to find exceptional leaders with the confidence and credibility to lead a team of employees towards success, I tell them that the good news is it is less about finding them, and more about building up the managers you already have. Consistent success with their own personal goals creates confident managers who are better able to achieve work related goals to fulfill the business’ overall mission. Investing in your employees can be the best investment you will ever make.
How about pivoting – can you share the story of a time you’ve had to pivot?
I have a strong belief that we grow and change or we die. I am and always have been committed to growth. After college, I applied and was accepted to the University of Michigan College of Pharmacy. I focused my studies on becoming a clinical pharmacist, so that when I graduated, I would pursue a one-year clinical pharmacy residency and then begin my career as a hospital pharmacist in Houston, Texas. I continued to learn and grow as a clinical pharmacist specializing in Infectious Disease and Internal Medicine. I presented at pharmacy meetings, conducted medication reviews on my patients and presented lectures to the medical team on therapy related topics. After my children were born, I chose to work part-time as a pharmacist in more flexible roles including conducting medication reviews for ambulatory care settings, medical writing for pharmaceutical companies and working as a clinical staff pharmacist at an independent compounding pharmacy. As my children got older, I was feeling a pull to learn and grow something new. I while I loved my 20+ year career in pharmacy, and appreciated the stability of it as a profession, I was ready to spread my wings and follow my heart where ever it would take me. I was ready to take some risks and seek my true passion. Entrepreneurship and entrepreneurs have always intrigued me. I love the passion, perserverance and creativity that is required to start and grow a successful business from scratch. My mom, and two brothers followed the entreprenurial path and I followed my father’s footsteps into healthcare. As I envisioned the next stage of my life, with less focus on raising children, I began to explore different careers that would allow me to use my gifts of sharing positivity, inspiring and motivating others to also take advantage of their own unique gifts. After taking a year of business courses, and momentarily considering applying to gain a MBA degree, I stumbled upon life coaching What I discovered was a profession that aligned perfectly with my personal values and unique gifts. I couldn’t wait to start my program and I know I have finally discovered my true passion in coaching. My dream would be to encourage everyone to follow their heart, have the courage to shift careers and find their true passion by continuing to grow and expand.
Can you tell us about what’s worked well for you in terms of growing your clientele?
Referrals, referrals, referrals. The first year I started working with clients, my motto was “Just Keep Coaching!” And I did. I would work with anyone who was willing and interested to experience working with a coach. I generously and lovingly offered friends and family free coaching and honed in on my skills and gifts and everything has grown from there. Those individuals have become my champions and best marketers for me and continue to refer me to real clients who then refer me to their friends and family. My motto last year was “Visibility,” which meant that I would agree to do whatever I was invited to do, podcasts, interviews, webinars, workshops, etc. Even though it felt completely outside of my comfort zone, I practiced what I preached and said yes! This year’s motto is “discernment.” I will continue to step out of my comfort zone to promote myself in different arenas, but I will be more discerning about the situations that I agree to participate in.
As I continue to share my authenticity and energy with everyone that I meet, the message spreads that I am very good at what I do. I confidently transform my clients’ energy from major confusion, to a complete breakthrough within the first hour of our meeting. At least half of my clients are repeat clients that I have worked with for over two years. Once they discover how coaching can help them, they recognize the power of it in their lives moving forward to create the reality that they want.
I am active on social media both Instagram, Facebook and Linked In. My primary goal on social media is to spread positivity to the world. Occasionally, I will have someone who follows my content and decides to reach out and hire me. But the majority of my clients are from personal referrals from current clients. I like to say that I “manifest people to promote me and prop me up” because I really don’t like to market, nor am I creative enough to do it. Fortunately, the manifestations have been successful and keep me quite busy doing what I love to do.
