Alright – so today we’ve got the honor of introducing you to Lauren Wells. We think you’ll enjoy our conversation, we’ve shared it below.
Lauren, thanks for joining us, excited to have you contributing your stories and insights. Let’s start with the story of your mission. What should we know?
I fell in love with fitness after my type 1 diabetes diagnosis in high school. I was diagnosed at age 15 and the transition was not easy. I found an outlet and way to take care of my health through fitness and fell in love with it! I’ve seen such a transformation with my own health and want to help others overcome and reach their health goals. This led to me pursuing a personal training certification this year and I’m currently growing my business!
Great, appreciate you sharing that with us. Before we ask you to share more of your insights, can you take a moment to introduce yourself and how you got to where you are today to our readers
My greatest motivation for pursuing a career in fitness stems from seeing my health transformation, despite battling several autoimmune illnesses. What sets me apart is that I understand what it feels like to struggle with these illnesses while trying to pursue ideal health goals, and can help others who are struggling in the same way. I help clients balance their workouts with their daily lives and create a plan that’s going to still help them reach those goals. I’m most proud of what I’ve seen others accomplish through through this work!
We’d love to hear a story of resilience from your journey.
I was recently diagnosed this year with Sjogren’s disease, which is a chronic autoimmune condition. It took several doctors and a few months to get to the root of it, but after that diagnosis I had a choice; I could either let this ruin me and control my life, or I could fight it and not let it own me. I chose the latter. I had to push harder than the average person to regain my health, but I’ve done so and won’t look back!
What’s a lesson you had to unlearn and what’s the backstory?
One lesson I’ve had to unlearn while pursuing my fitness journey is that results will come instantaneously. Whether it was pursuing my fitness goals or my certification alone, I’ve learned that patience is key. When I began studying a couple of years ago for my certification, I thought I would have it done while I was still working on my Bachelor’s degree. I had to take a step back and finish my degree first, then pursue the certification. It’s so important to not overwhelm yourself and meet your goals in a healthy way.
