We’re excited to introduce you to the always interesting and insightful Lauren Van Duzer. We hope you’ll enjoy our conversation with Lauren below.
Lauren, appreciate you joining us today. Parents play a huge role in our development as youngsters and sometimes that impact follows us into adulthood and into our lives and careers. Looking back, what’s something you think you parents did right?
I’m inspired by my parents strong work ethic. Watching my parents bring ethics into every day tasks and work diligently to support and provide for our family was inspiring. Both of them had multiple jobs at various times. While that has its drawbacks, the blessing of it is that I learned how I want to show up in life and in my chosen career. Not only is it important to honor what you commit to, it’s important also to engage with respect, integrity & kindness. That’s become a compass that I live by. It’s impacted my career in ways I wouldn’t have imagined. Holistic dog ‘training’ is all about connection, which massively coincides with my core values.

Lauren, before we move on to more of these sorts of questions, can you take some time to bring our readers up to speed on you and what you do?
Happy Hounds. Happy Humans.
I am Lauren Van Duzer from Happy Hounds And Beyond, LLC. As an Associate Certified Dog Behavior Consultant, families bring their sensitive, reactive, and aggressive dogs to me for guidance on how to live with the behaviors they didn’t expect, what to do about it and learning new ways of connecting with them. Ultimately, they learn how to live a thriving life together!
I specialize in assisting families with these types of behaviors, setting puppies up for success, and dismantling the labels for a happier life with your dog.
Maple, my beagle from the teenage years, is what really got me started into positive training and canine behavior. He was showing aggression towards other animals in the house, unknown animals, people, and even me! Of course, this broke my heart as all I wanted for him was to be happy, and I wanted that for myself too. As you can imagine, I went on a search to find solutions that were effective, kind, and science backed. Once I began that journey, I never looked back.
My approach includes science based dog training, along with mindfulness techniques along with extensive support for each and every person and dog. We do hybrid learning- with both in person and online lessons along with on-demand, tutorials and video messaging between lessons! I have a greatest career – I get to help families and their dogs deepen connections, get real results and live more peacefully and fun lives together.
Happy Hounds. Happy Humans.

Are there any books, videos or other content that you feel have meaningfully impacted your thinking?
I’ve worked with a business coaching company, dogbiz, and separately a brand coach, Kati Keyes. These two investments have significantly improved my business skills and have led to stronger representation, more ideal clients, and freedom within my business. I highly recommend it for any entrepreneur!

Any stories or insights that might help us understand how you’ve built such a strong reputation?
Operating with our core values as a guide sets us apart. I genuinely care about my clients, their dogs and their progress. Success comes in many forms! We discuss what success means to each of our families and that it sometimes changes as we move forward in training. Respecting our dog’s needs, individuality and giving their families space to express themselves makes a world of difference for each of them.
