We caught up with the brilliant and insightful Lauren Steward a few weeks ago and have shared our conversation below.
Alright, Lauren thanks for taking the time to share your stories and insights with us today. Alright, so we’d love to hear about how you got your first client or customer. What’s the story?
I was subcontracting for several cleaning companies- I had set up my LLC and insurance but was still hesitant about getting customers. I literally was in Denver parallel parking about to go into a move out clean as a “subcontractor”. I received a call from a woman, Cynthia, that owns a cleaning business in Aurora. It was a hoarded clean with tons of mice droppings. I remember very specifically calling my mom and telling her “my first potential customer” I went and did the walk thru- set my first appointment and from there- got to work!

Lauren, love having you share your insights with us. Before we ask you more questions, maybe you can take a moment to introduce yourself to our readers who might have missed our earlier conversations?
I truly fell into this industry- after years of sales, in the car business I found my passion. I’m quite literally obsessed with cleaning and organizing! I know for certain my life’s purpose is to create clean and organized spaces for each and every guest I meet! I have never been more passionate then helping those in need of buying back their time or those that need help reorganizing their space. I love helping the mom that needs more time- the family that cant find time- the hoarded home that needs all the love!

How did you put together the initial capital you needed to start your business?
I have been self funding my business since day one! I believe so strongly in our brand/mission and ability to be successful without outside funding! I started with one customer grew a book of business and have been growing ever since. Although, yes, service based businesses are initially less expensive to start- it’s not so inexpensive to grow.

How’d you build such a strong reputation within your market?
I’m incredibly hands on- this business is my life! My customers and employees are the most important. I pride myself on providing a great experience for the customer and a great experience for the people that work with me!
